Those were the days and can still remember the guy downstairs from ma Grannie taking them on the bogie up to meet the train

Always fascinated by these yesteryear scenes.  :)

 

When I had pigeons in 1960's, Lanarkshire Fed still went to racepoints by train. Our club used a bothy on Bellshill station platform to basket the race birds. They went from there to Motherwell by the railway lorry, a scammell 3-wheeled tractor & trailer.

 

Toulets were enclosed & sealed in wooden boxes by then though. :)

Hi JIMI,just found this old photo on the computer,had to convert it fromTIF to JPEG ,no pigeons but this is where I used to go as a kid.

the bird in the above post is in fact " ruhr express"  awarded  the dicken medal , sold for a world record price for a cock pigeon by the  R,A,F   to s and d bishop  of weybridge
