FoxesFan4Ever Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Hi all, I have been having a look on Ebay for blowtorches but there is so many and they are so varied that I have once again confused myself. I do not want one that requires massive gas cylinders kicking about for sure. I would like one that is self contained and easily portable but wont cost a fortune to refill. If you can recommend one please feel free. Thanks all

Guest Owen Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 I know that a lot of people sware by blowtorches, but I think that they are dangerous and a waste of time. For them to work you have to scorch the wood and there is no way you will burn all into all the corners. You would be far better off using and agricultural viricidal distinfectant and allowing the sun to cleans the loft. The Sun if the best distinfectant there is. Blowtorches are old fashioned and should be left to the history books.
tjloft Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 I have two that I use a hand held plumbers version(1.99 from B & Q) and a weed wizard. It may be old fashioned but does exactly what you want it to do - kills everything you want it to do(viruses, worm eggs etc). Only scorches the wood if you stop moving!!!!!

Same as that, I swear by it. You won,t burn the loft down if your carefull and keep moving. Also good for food troughs etc.
showman Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 A mate of mine was a great user of a blow torch in the lofts. Cleaned the stock birds one day, ( they were at his parents' farm) and gave it a go over with the blow torch, as he had done for years, then a misting of Virkon. That night he was called by his mother to come quickly, the loft was on fire !! In the couple of minutes it took him to drive down the road the loft was ablaze when he arrived.....nothing survived. Afterwards he thought the only explanation was that some 'hidden' dust/feathers must have smouldered and later turned into a small flame, which went on to engulf the loft. He was totally gutted at the time....hasn't used a blow torch since, and never will again. Not my idea either, simply wouldn't take the chance.
Guest challengerlofts Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 I have used heating gun from B & Q. or if there's any spare, Hair Drier.
