cemetary Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Hi guys! from Iceland, i must say that i feel many of you are taking this very lightly, i would be very careful sending birds to a race or training in the next few days. The ash might be high in the air now but some of it might come down and this is very fine dust so it might not take a lot to damage a small respiratory system, i would also be concerned about if sun rays are getting through well enough. It might be fine but by all means use common sense and get to know a little bit about what you are dealing with. I was just watching the weather forecast, the wind will continue to blow your way in the next few days. Now i am not a scientist, it might be a good idea for the people in charge of your clubs and feds to contact someone with knowledge and get some information. BETTER SAFE THEN SORRY. Very good info mate, thanks for the post,

Hogni Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Everything is good here, i live quite far from the volcano and the wind is blowing the other way, but our thoughts are with the people who live in the area and the farmers who have to hope for as little damage to their land as possible, they all had to leave their animals behind, which are safe for now but who knows what a volcano will do, there is also a glacier on top of the mountain and as it melts away floods are coming down the hills. It is true that this volcano (Eyjafjallajökull) erupted in 1821-1823 for almost 2 years and was followed by it´s big sister Katla, a much bigger and more dangerous volcano. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyjafjallaj%C3%B6kull http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katla

Guest IB Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 BBC News: Health Protection Agency have issued a warning for Scotland that ash will ground today : dust and glass in minute particles, also a gas sulphur dioxide, (which I think when mixed with water forms sulfuric acid). Strange thing is wind is shown as westerly over Scotland today, (I thought this ash cloud was east of us) but the wind is N / NE over much of England, so would have thought more likely to ground there?
