PIGEON_MAN Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 anyone who wishes to contribute to a fund to fight our corner against rspb to purchase trailer to attend shows ganme faire markets with birds on show and photos of damage to our birds leaflets explaining true agenda rspb please do so Good idea but who is going to be the people who go round to the shows, game fairs etc, surely a better idea would be to use the trailer the RPRA allready as,i,m sure they would loan it out if it was shown the people using it was doing a good job.

Blue Chequer Pied Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Great idea but we should also highlight the plight of garden birds in conjunction to racing pigeons this way it will appeal to a much wider audience. Mrs Miggins may not be overly bothered about racing pigeons but may be miffed that she has not seen a thrush in her garden for years or that house sparrows in her part of London are a thing of the past. On the other hand Joe Bloggs may have fond memories of his dad's/grandad's pigeons and may take up the cause. I am all for it as long as it is tailored to a wider audience as some people unfortunately assosiate all pigeons with the pigeons that sit on their town hall. Paul.
jimmy_84 Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 i think this is great idea as we need more recognition fromother sport's hobby's and more so the general public more so we need to make the public aware that a pigeon is not a dirty flying rat as they see them now due to the ferrals they need to see what our bird's do and give to us i have made my neighbour's aware of this and most look forward to me letting my birds out now and are amazed by my roller's and there opinion has changed totaly to a pigeon
ChrisMaidment08 Posted August 8, 2008 Author Report Posted August 8, 2008 as most peaples view does when shown
jimmy_84 Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 this is only to true we need to amke the public see our birds as we see them
jimmy_84 Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 this is only to true we need to amke the public see our birds as we see them and should not the RSPB be also on our side not just the side of the raptors
Guest chrisss Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 and should not the RSPB be also on our side not just the side of the raptors hawks make "good news" for the rspb along with lots of donations

You know, these are fundementally great idea's... Wish we had a PR Firm like the RSPB etc. and got other concerns involved. No good just showing tha damage of 'Pigeons' Sure it is to us... But Joe Public needs another slant I fear. Garden birds, Game Birds, Pere taking Ducks etc. etc. then a combined force witha professional approach may well pay dividends. In fact it would no doubt get the message across.... PSPB Slogan Dear little ole lady... Please. please support us via leave a few bob to our noble causes, Like protecting the garden Robin, the finches, ducks etc. so our BOP have plenty to chase and eat'! P.s. just think of the good you could do by leaving your money to us in your will'!
jimmy_84 Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 hawks make "good news" for the rspb along with lots of donations yes this maybe the case but if they also spent more time to protect our great birds they may recieve more support and donation's

Little children are fascinated by birds they can touch, watch circle, and then home. If children can get the opportunity to appreciate pigeons like this, they may not all become fanciers, but hopefully, they'll appreciate them. Essentially, they'll probably never forget the experience. By bringing pigeons into school, and igniting childrens' interest, there's so much schools can base pigeon homing/racing on. Maths (how long does it take a pigeon flying at x miles an hour to fly x miles), Geography (if a pigeon flies due north from Bristol for 90 miles, where would he end up), Biology (how many eggs does a pigeon lay, how long is the hatching process, and how long is it before they can fly). All this and lots more!! ;-D ;-D Crikey, I'm on a roll ;-D ;-D ;-D ;-)

Bluedoo Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 Extract from http://www.save-songbirds.co.uk/ "The RSPB has been singularly successful in attracting over one million members. However, it cannot claim that its actions have in any way proved effective in preventing the decline in the songbird populations. It has been succesful in re-introducing some raptor species, but certainly does not find it convenient to tell its members that these predatory birds will add to the killing of literally millions of songbirds every year." This is one of the charities, if not the only one, we should be supporting from the likes of Blackpool.
invalidusername Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 go on that man what a great idea i will put this to the head of our school when they return after summer never thought about incorpirating it into lessons was jsut about show and tell Jimmy - I'm surprised they haven't thought of it themselves! They just need to think outside the box, and whilst pigeons aren't on the curriculum, with a little imagination, they can use them to really interest kids in loads of subjects.

jimmy_84 Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 maybe we could as a fancy set up our own society such as the RSPB to help raise awareness of not just the problem's we face but the other birds targeted by the raptors
just ask me Posted August 8, 2008 Report Posted August 8, 2008 a bit off the point i know but just another tought on songbirds and there demise if we as pigeon fanicers will only feed top class peanuts to our birds and i think its the same for parrots too if there feed bad peanunts death can can happen is it not the same for the feeeders that our for sale in our supermarkets pet shops and if u look at the peanuts for wild birds they are a disgrace u can see the mould on them would i be right id imagine they kill a lot of wild birds too

Maybe we should be on the Governing bodies website making these comments and suggestions :-/

Winning medals in the wars etc. Man has been associated with pigeons/doves since we first stood upright. Go for it Jimmy.
