blaz Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 all the stories that come with this owl is like believing in father xmas you will soon grow out of it .sorry to say ,. yes we all will but it wont stop an eagle owl raiding and killing another raptors nest if given the chance
frank-123 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 "The Eurasian Eagle Owl would appear to have a vendetta against other birds of prey, especially other owls. In some areas they form 10% of the bird’s diet, which is much greater than one would expect from chance." from the owl trust why would they lie? les why are the rspb not supporting the introduction of the eagle owl because it might not be a native species to the uk :-/ :-/
les Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 only if it nest in the same place ,so to do any good there would have to be about 20 thousand pairs and all nesting in the same place as the perigrins and other hawks ,and i cant see that happening some how can you ,or is it just me .
Guest Freebird Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Think they have a wide territory so no other bird of prey will enter it. Our own owls also have the same impact but to a lesser degree. Hav'nt made my mind up about this one yet. Goos video though and food for thought. Think Les is right though, it's up to us to make an impact somehow.
blaz Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 how many times have we seen hawks or falcons nesting on pylons a nice easy target for an eagle owl

just ask me Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 i think les may be right on this one on the reading up that i have done and i know a good few ppl in the know some eagle owls will kill falcons and hawks living in there area and some become good at it but mostlly there main reason for killing them is when other food sources have run out and that could take a while as they live on rats squriels but one of there main food scores is rabbits and i think it will take a while before they run out ;D i would ask pll again too ook at this thread might be something of intrest ;)http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1236365044/s-36/highlight-magpie
les Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 les if you could donate £20 a year to the guys that where on that clip i am sure they would make sure they owl survivesi like the owl a lot but any money i spend on sorting any hawk or falcon problem will be spent on things that have worked for me time and time again 100%

No two ways about that.... and they are Natives of this country. According to the BBC and also once here like they come under pretection etc. Jimmy has the rights and wrongs etc. at his finger tips if I'm not mistaken.

les Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 i go to scone palace nearly ever year for the game fair also met some nice guys from the save our song birds there as well now if any one want to spend money on a worthy cause make a donation to these guys they are our only allies willing to help [but they would have to have the same number of donators as the RSPB to realy get things moving ],it will happen because i have seen old women giving them donations and saying that the small birds need help because the RSPB are not helping them any more ,[but it is going to take to many years for it to be any good for our hobby .]ATB les.
Roland Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 True Les.... but the biggest problem is our Apathy and the publics awareness. If needs shouting about, where better than from the roof tops... and HEARD.
