hi all,i rescued one of my pigeons today from a cat and apart from some punture marks around the keel bone my pigeon seems ok physically but she is refusing to eat and was just laying on the loft floor refusing to move? i bathed the puncture marks with tcp and have locked her into a nestboxbox on her own with food/water as other birds were pestering her  :(  have i done the right thing locking her away?  debbie

ps im hoping that she is just in shock and will be ok tomorow :-/

pigeon is probably in shock , just keep it quiete and should come round ok.

keep it locked up pigeons can be cruel and see weakness and attack if the wounds are not too serious sometimes the shock can be worse than the wound itself most times i find in 12hrs there is a big improvement just keep an eye for any infections

most birds injured by cats if bitten are most likely to die sorry cat bites are higly poisonusopen wounds and get tcp in if you can

had one of my birds attacked by a cat a few weeks ago, gashed his wing in a nasty slashing type cut.......the thing was though is that for few days after the wound seemed to be getting worse and hurting him more as he was holding himself as though he was in pain, put some anti-septic cream or spray onto the wound and keep her quiet and away from the others and she should make a full recovery....good luck.

numpty is 100% right. You have probably left it too late. Your bird is likely too die of blood poisoning. It is not shock alone that has caused it to lay there, it is dieing of the poison. It needs an injection of antibiotics urgently to stand a chance. Sorry mate, but at least you know now just have nasty cat bites and scratches can be. And just to make a point cat droppings are also very contagious to humans. You really should not allow them near your children never mind your birds.
