Guest Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Slugmonkey Do you know any one in the U.S or Canada flew well with Thone birds ?
Guest coxy Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 jansseins for the sprint to middle distance and janaardens for long to extreme distance
schouwman71 Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 yes speed bird i also have the karl hremans aswell as janssens,i think the hermans are the best thing yorkshire has seen, also i know of many top herman flyers who have got the van reets to try against their hermans and their hermans have still dominated the van reets.i have some of ward bros old stuff and they are very fast birds.
T_T Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 If we're talking about the test of time here, for me, it HAS to be Busschaerts.
Guest jason Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 best pigeons in uk?...............mine! I just love delbars , best birds i've ever had! ;D
schouwman71 Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 delbars are great pigeons as they are good allrounders,a friend use to have some, think he got them from louella at the time but won on the first race also won 500mls with them aswell, agree with t.t on the busschearts aswell but they were not a pure breed like the janssens as george busscheart got the fastest pigeons he could at the time and fetched them back to england with him as belguims specialised in sprint races at the time but we didnt.
Guest shadow Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 delbars are great pigeons as they are good allrounders,a friend use to have some, think he got them from louella at the time but won on the first race also won 500mls with them aswell, agree with t.t on the busschearts aswell but they were not a pure breed like the janssens as george busscheart got the fastest pigeons he could at the time and fetched them back to england with him as belguims specialised in sprint races at the time but we didnt.. I dont think ther are any ( Pure pigeons) as such as all the belgian past masters used to borrow or buy from the top flyers of their era. And still do today. The best birds are the first one back every week regardless of strain.
snowy Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 got some kirkpatricks, & some putmans, & some janssenxbuscharts
jimmy white Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 CANT SEE THE RESULT OF POLL AS I HAVENT VOTED, AS I AGREE WITH ROSE AND SHADOW,, WITH THE RIGHT MANAGEMENT THE BEST BIRDS WILL SOON SHOW, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE SO CALLED BREED,
schouwman71 Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 if birds have been line bred and inbred for so many generations you get a certain type that all look the same or colour type, just like the janssen pigeons they were made up of certain strains and moulded together to create one hell of a family of birds, we can call them pure just as we call dogs german shepards, dalmations ,bull dogs etc etc. the old arendonk janssens were all inbred together and all looked the same type.
darin Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 a pedigree is as only as good as the man what wrote,it................! you can turn anything into whatever breed you like
square_peg Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 DONT REALLY THINK IT'S THE NAME MORE THE WAY YOU FEED THEM, NOBODY THAT HAS ANY REAL FORTE IN EITHER SPRINT OR DISTANCE FEEDS THEM THE SAME WAY SO CALLED SPRINT DOO'S WILL WIN AT THE DISTANCE IF FED FOR THE JOB AND VICE VERSA
Mike Lycett Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Square Peg By and large I think you're right. However, there are some distance families for love nor money just will not win at 100km irrespective of how you feed or train. By the same token, I can find you plenty of pigeons that won't handle 14 hrs on the day. They've either got it in their armoury or they haven't. Mike
Guest Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 as ive posted on here before, i still belive that if you have a good pigeon that is coming well from 200miles etc and you push his that bit further and he has a hard fly, he will never win from 200miles again. you ask a top fancier if hes had a bird coming well on the land, then goes and puts him over the water and he has a 10+ hour fly, i bet he wasnt half the bird he was ever again. i know you might get the odd exception to the rule.
Guest shadow Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 the best pigeons in the UK are winning ones no matter what breeding
darin Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 I and D maddison from H/POOL has the best bird in the unc and the uk its won from alover nowt to touch it, fantastic bird even mike lycett has got one to touch this one..........lol
darin Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 so how do you do that.. rose ? its record says it all fantastic nowt to touch it
Guest Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Agree there Rose, you can never call it a fair race if you are racing against people 200-300 miles apart, as the birds further up the country may have to get through adverse weather conditions when other birds are home and dry. I think these one loft races are the fairest way to find the best birds, or they would be if they were flown over greater distances so the clever birds have a chance to make a break for home. In the UNC we are all flying to pretty much the same line but where I fly in Teesside the birds generally get dragged either down the east coast or too far north, so you have to have the birds blob on mentally to beat people 20-30 mile north of us or 15 mile east of us. Some race days you see very few birds coming down the line and may as well look the other way. Luckily for me I work on the east coast so I can train my birds to break from there.
Mike Lycett Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 The pigeon of Maddison's is without doubt a cracker - 24 carat gold. However, the 2005 RPRA Sprint Champion of the UK is "Scarecrow" by Donnelly Bros.. PHENOMENAL PIGEON. Same pigeon was 3rd UK Sprint champion in 2005. Wins against over 20,000 birds on all winds. WHAT A RIP SNORTER !!! Mike
peterpau Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Best strain? Those that score for you at the distance you do best at. The origins of my loft reads like a phone book. But who cares. Not me. Mine are well tried and tested, that's all that matters.
Guest Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 when did bert and allen brought s v reets in the uk?
swilcox Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 To me the Staf Van Reet pigeons that came out of Bert Hessions loft were best the UK has ever seen for winning big National, Classic and Combine races from 200-400 miles. He turned many fanciers into champions ie Rod Baxter, Alwyn Hill, Gary Downing, Ian Stafford, Mr Mrs Emberson, Jimmy and Sue Dickens etc etc. I bought his pigeon in 1999 and they won from the 1st race and showed me just how good pigeons could be!!!! I paid bert around 1700 pounds for pigeons, unfortunately for me i split with the misses in 2003 and was stupid enough to sell the birds at auction, they made over 30,000 pounds!!!!!!! I regret it every day despite the money!!!!! I feel somedays like i lost children i would never let that happen again!! Stuart Wilcox
