Do you let your young bird out before they can fly.how do they get through the trap if they cant fly ? :-/
as soon as they can reach the top perch (usually about 4 weeks old)you can let them out although they can fly a bit they wont go far outside, i put mine out on the board at 4 weeks old and as soon as you open the trap their in like a bullet, and they are out every day after that unless it get very windy, this pigeon game is a learning process and learn by your mistakes. keep a diary and mark everything down and years down the line you can look back and see the things you did wrong and how far you have come on.

glad one of em is back chris  hopefully the other one is still in the area but you never can tell when yb,s go awol   ive had em come back after nighting out from anything between the next morning to 5 days later  i had one go awol myself yesterday but it was trying to get in my loft at first light this morning and shot thru the traps when i opened them so he prob spent the night on a neighbours roof  i let my yb,s walk in/out the loft door to the garden as soon as they start to get curious and start to leave the nest so they get used to the outside of the loft   i hope you get the other one back   kev :)

You know, a fancier from Oxford brought home a few squeakers from Sweden. They'd of course never flew out, wes about the 28 day mark ... Kept as Stock of cause.

Any way 2 years down the line, one escaped.... ad went back to Sweden and the loft it was born in of course.  Was going to have back.... but cost a fair bit so ...

Any way 3 weeks later it's flew home from Sweden and back in the Oxford loft. Next season it won a few aces. Go figure :-/

Roland who was that in Oxford?? never heard that story before.

lucky man chris

should have no poblem with them now

if the weather is ok tomorow let them out

them going in and out will be helpful to the rest of the y/bs when you put them in

I don't race just fly white homers. A friend suggested this method and it seems to work fine. I built a movable stand large enough to put a wire basket on. I place the basket on the landing board and let the ybs get comfortable on the landing board. After about a week I put the stand next to the landing board, put feed out, shake my feed can, and let them out one at a time. They will hop on the board and go directly into the loft through the traps (I have bob traps now but I am thinking about a sputnik).

I do this a couple of time and then move the stand back about 5 feet. After a couple of times at 5 feet I move it back another five feet and so on until I reach about 20 feet.

Then I start letting them loft fly. They have only been flying a week and so for I have 18 for 18 in the loft. They are still flying crazy but starting to flock a little. This morning I let them out but none left the landing board. We've had bad weather (lots of rain and tornadoes, I live in South Central Mississippi) and maybe they know more is coming.

This is my first time to try training this way and it seems to work well although I did have one bird stay out overnight. I've only been flying about 1 1/2 years so I am no expert for sure  but I try to listen to people who are.

I would be interested in a comparison between bob traps and sputniks. Remember I don't race but I do want my birds to return and trap quickly.
