Guest Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 they are missing something but at this stage its a habit get a box of spartix (spelling) worming tablets give them one every time when they come back they will get sick and assocate this with feeding in the fields but they missing something can someone else spell this wormer properly ;D ;D ;D you have to be joking give them tablets every time they go to the fields go to the field and see what they are picking i would hint at mole hills or grit/minerals lock them up and give them some mole hill in a box or grit/minerals dont run them down with any tablets

just ask me Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 you have to be joking give them tablets every time they go to the fields go to the field and see what they are picking i would hint at mole hills or grit/minerals lock them up and give them some mole hill in a box or grit/minerals dont run them down with any tablets well if u do this they dont go any more all im saying is it works would also agree with minerals block different types of grit but as i say he has to break the habit and also introduce these things or else more different types
ALF Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 I think you'd have to be off your heid to give the doos a worming tablet every time they went fielding : : : :
just ask me Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 well if every one pops pills in to them and make them sick and u dont surly u more chane of winning what club or fed u fly in i never said everyone does i just said this stops pigeons from Fielding noting more and if a fancier like ronnie bigwood has said this is a way to stop well not many has won more than him my friend done it stopped it in 3 to 4 days cant really remember to be honest and hes definitely not one for popping pills down the birds neck think we will all have to agree to disagree on this one ;D ;D
just ask me Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 I think you'd have to be off your heid to give the doos a worming tablet every time they went fielding : : : : well what i said usually stops them altogether so its not an ongoing thing as i said already
just ask me Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 have my reasons mate i come on here to talk pigeons enough polictics in the real world as u can understand come on here to try get away from it
Pretty Pied Un Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 i totally agree with rembrant2coo i dont believe that you thinking poppin pills in to the yb's mouths everytime they come back home is going to do the trick. Firstly yb's need encouragement to come home wheather it be from training, roaming or racing i.e encourage them with a little treat (food, peanuts etc) not by making them VOMIT! Spartakon IS for worming but it really isnt advisable in adminisitoring such a heavy dosage. You need to train these birds teaching them the routine - LOFT -- TRAINING POINT -- HOME -- FEED! Feed the birds lightly until you conquer this as if the birds are hungry they are not in a rush to get home. Put Lemon Juice on their corn Give the ybs plenty of grit and minerals this normally stops them fielding. I know this also sounds silly but give your ybs a little bit of fuss and make them feel really welcome at home, ybs are better in their loft when they feel more at home and contented. whatever you do dont flag the birds around the loft to train them. and make sure there is a full range of grits and minerals in the loft so they dont go fielding looking for these. Hope this help
Tropicman Posted May 26, 2009 Author Report Posted May 26, 2009 Right Guys i were never guna give them the "pill" every time they went fielding as they have just been on some heavy dosage of medicine for e-coli but we have introduce a range of grits and they are working a tiny bit as they havent landed the last two times theyve been out , but they wernt out for long as we let them out got them in training then back in straight away like today they were out from 3 till around 5 basketed then taken 3 miles away from the loft and it took them a bit longer to get back this time as it was there first chuck from this place and it was windy as hell but they all came back within 10 mins and all together as well and went straight in but the previous place we were training them from was too close and as soon as we let them out they would return and fly around the loft then go to the field then come down and come in but i think there getting the routine of out, in , basket , training , home, in, fed. so hopefully this will get into them a bit and pretty pied un what do you mean about lemon juice how does this help ? cheersps. I appreciate everyone has different methods and thanks for all the advice
kwango Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 im sorry mate once they start going to the fields they will always go there
Tropicman Posted May 26, 2009 Author Report Posted May 26, 2009 well your the only one who thinks so mate every one ive asked has just said you can get them out of the habbit the've only started doing it last week and its only happened like 4 times :/
rooster Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 try and find yourself some mole heaps gather the soil , put it into a tray then into the oven until dry , cheap as chips and your pigeons will love it ,
kwango Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 well your the only one who thinks so mate every one ive asked has just said you can get them out of the habbit the've only started doing it last week and its only happened like 4 times :/ im only giving you my opinion as others have theres .if you take them away every day on a toss you might get them out of the habit. but if you let them out of the loft they will go to the fields
Guest numpty01 Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 as i live by river seven my birds used to go there all the time i found they went there for grit or rather they were full of little shells i started useing grit red and standard and also gave crumble blocks they stoped going down there :-/ :-/ :-/
Pretty Pied Un Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 My personal opinion on the best grit and minerals you could possibly use are the following: SEAWEED, REDSTONE GRIT, PINK MINERALS AND A GOOD GRIT COMBO - MATRIX IS ALSO A VERY GOOD MIXTURE OF GRIT PICKIN BLOCKS ARE BRILLIANT AND I REALLY RECOMMEND THE PICKING BLOCKS FROM NATURAL AS FOR THE FIELDING SITUATION I HAVE SPOKEN TO A VERY GOOD FRIEND OF MINE, AND AN EXCEPTIONAL FLYER HERE IN THE MIDLANDS AND HIS ADVISE IS: GET SOME SOIL, AND SPRINKLE A LITTLE IN EACH OF THE BOXES THIS MAY SEEM AS IF YOU ARE DEFEATING THE OBJECT AS THEY ARE STILL PICKIN AT '''DIRTY'' SOIL BUT ATLEAST IF ITS THERE FOR THEM IN THE LOFT AND THEY KNOW ITS THERE THEY WON'T HAVE IT IN THEIR HEADS THEY HAVE TO GO LOOKING FOR IT IN FIELDS THE BIRDS SHOULD THEN BEGIN TO EXCERSISE AROUND HOME AT THE SAME TIME STILL LEAVE AVAILABLE THE GRIT AND MINERALS FOR THEM TO GET AT. ONCE THEY START EXCERSISING AROUND HOME AND YOU KNOW FOR SURE THEY ARE NO LONGER FIELDING GRADUALLY WEAN THEM FROM THE SOIL I.E WHEN CLEANING OUT THE LOFT TAKE A LITTLE AWAY AT A TIME. IF YOU HAVE GRIDS IN YOUR BOXES THEN PLACING THE SOIL UNDER THE GRIDS WOULD BE PERFECT AS THE BIRDS CANT CONSTANTLY PECK AWAY AT THE SOIL AND ALSO THEIR FEET DONT GET MESSY!
jimmy white Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Right our young birds have been ranging around a mile or two away from the loft and have been gone recently for a long time so me and my dad watched them yesterday for around half an hour and have noticed they have landed on the field across from the loft around a quarter of a mile away its right on the top of the hill in the valley so could this be because oif lack of minerals etc ? or are we doing something wrong? help would be appreciated in my opinion tablets would not be a preference of mine , but once into this habit, fairly hard to get them out of it, i note you have treated them for e coli, if they had e,coli, this could poss be the reason, making up for the lack of minerals [lost with the e, coli, ,,,but as earlier poster remarks , the earth from a fresh mole hill, [changed daily] mixed with most grits , some seeds , [smaller seed sthe better] enough to keep them picking, might just help,, i try this to keep them from the rhone pipes , it seems to work,, ive even filled a basin of grass sods, mixed with small seeds grits etc,, even a lettuce washed sprinkled with salt , might help,, but if only repeated this feilding 4 times,, time now to get them out the habit,, worth a try,,
