blackdog Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 could members please keep a lookout for youngbirds with the letter D10701-to 17000 as the derwent valley fed have had a disaster race out of garstang near blackpool 64 mls yesterday, liberated at 1-20 in a west north west wind, hundreds of birds missing, looks like the wind may have pushed them up the wrong valley, this couldnt have come at a worse time with members already suffering because of the old bird races, leaving a lot of people finished, this being only the second race, thank you.
abbeypap Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Ayrshire fed had a bad race as well, we are still waiting for 14 out of 20 from 64 miles and we are one of the better lofts for returns.

abbeypap Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 hi abbypap, where were you racing from as my mate greenlands has one in plus we know of a couple more with them in as well, greenlands is going to try and get them back up to ayshire threw the week. Race point was Lockerbie. Any help getting even one back to there owners would be appreciated. Just found out it is costing £5 per pigeon as well when they come in the stray basket. Racing is certainly proving to be an increasingly expensive hobby. But we'll pay our dues and bring them home where we can.

I traveled from Cumbria (Appleby) to lancashire yesterday. I departed Appleby at 12-50, i hit one shower on the way not that heavy to cause a bad race. i think you are most probably right about the strong wind pushing them up the wrong valley, there are plenty of valleys to go up around them parts.
Guest mike hitchin Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 first race ive ever had yesterday from cheltenham 90 miles was 2nd club only 1 still missing.

Novice Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 couldnt agree with you more wullie, its the race point of no return and has been for a long time. hope you get them back As far as I can remember this is Ayrshire's first race ever from this race point. They certainly went east last year. However having said all that Ayrshire birds cross over before the borders. I have had 3 reported this year. One lost from Newbury was in Clitheroe. One lost from Leicester was in Southern Ireland. One lost from Wanstead Flats was in Whitehaven. I have never had a pigeon reported on the east side of the country.
