Guest karl adams Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 when is the best time to pair up and start breeding
OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 that all depends on what system you want to fly both old birds and young birds Karl
Guest karl adams Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 old birds widowhood young birds natural
OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 23rd of January will give you 3 weeks to train and 8 weeks for breeding thats the time im pairing up ill will be checking for the nearest full moon tho
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 23rd of January will give you 3 weeks to train and 8 weeks for breeding thats the time im pairing up ill will be checking for the nearest full moon tho How do you work that one out? We don't even know when our first race is yet (shrug) until AGM
Guest karl adams Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 would you breed from stock birds at the same time
OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 we usualy start racing second friday in April full moon in January is 11 maybe a bit to early for what i want so ill go with the 23rd
Wiley Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 interesting oldyellow do you normally pair to the full moon heard many fanciers doing this but no explanation why?
OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 as wiley says if you dont want to take ybs from the race team float in eggs from the stock loft to the race team
OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 why pair to a full moon the birds can see when moons full and if paired that day the moon light will give them abit of extra light you can still here them cooing sometimes , well thats if your loft lets enough light in
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 we usualy start racing second friday in April full moon in January is 11 maybe a bit to early for what i want so ill go with the 23rd Ah well....... we start the last Saturday in March or first Saturday in April - with an open race the week before (the open race is always March but never send...!! )
OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 the yearlings wont like the earlier cold northerly winds and can knock them early on , id never race before april unless i had a 2 year olds and preferably hens
little sam Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 why pair to a full moon the birds can see when moons full and if paired that day the moon light will give them abit of extra light you can still here them cooing sometimes , well thats if your loft lets enough light in IS THAT ALSO BETTER BECAUSE ITS A NATURAL SOURCE OF LIGHT
OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 it is natural light and to go with nature in my view is better
Roland Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Was always told it was because when the youngsters hatched, they would have the extra light to feed later / or in night!
OLDYELLOW Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 they would be a minmum of 7 days old when moon was full again
terry mccarthy Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 every year 27th of novenber lights on for a month before hand up untill 10 pm natural lights in morning no heating this year though its 1st of december
Guest IB Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I remember an earlier thread on Full Moon pairings, and the link is : http://forum.pigeonbasics.com/m-1198191701/s-0/ Not an expert, but I believe the Lunar cycle is actually 28 days, so pair up on a full moon and 10+18 days later its another full moon, with youngsters hatching out then. Think the aim is to have them hatching on a Full Moon, rather than pairing then, though one should lead to the other?
The Navigator Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I always try to go on the full moon. Done this for years as all the old school used to use this method.
jacksafc Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 UNC first race is about first week in April and airing about 20th January suits. Intend to pair stock first week in December and pair the race team when the stock are on about 12day young and float the eggs, well thats the plan anyway.
