Guest Vic Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 After browsing through the Scottish returns into Lanarkshire, Where they seem to think that predatory birds are responsible, en route. Has not it been a similar situation up and down the country regarding somewhat (not losses) but erratic returns. East wind or What?
superstar Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 13/13 from poole today and all but 1 under 2 hours so cant complain here
Guest Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 19/20 from tow law, 1 back from last week and 1 back from a y/bird race last year.
ozbrit Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 we had well spaced returns in our club flying in the lincs south road fed from billericay but most had all theirs home my returns were 7/10
Guest Vic Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 I'm not complaining about losing birds (I got 19/20) half a dozen or so on first drop, poolers were not prominent, I overcooked them maybe! Who knows?
superstar Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 This week and last week have been to easy for us on the south road Vic, Time for a stiff North wind tester next week that will sort them out a bit dont you think?
frank-123 Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 vic great post i reckon it must be hawks what would split pigeons so much in a 103 mile race to me our winner timed then never got another bird for 40 mins i was the same i timed my first bird then took the pools nearly 60 mins after my first bird with my 3rd bird two club members competing in the final of our knockout cup still never had any ko birds at clock check 4 hrs after liberation what could cause so many large gaps in such a short race lets find out how the other feds have done
Guest Vic Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Thanks Guys, You must agree that Iv'e seen it all before, at my age. But always, relate to the actual happenings, without blaming our predatory birds. There are more obstacles than hawks, once the strings have been cut. If our birds could talk, they wouldn't squark. to say the least, as most fanciers do.

Simeon Turner Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 We got 24/24 flying in one of the clubs flying 135 Miles 21/25 from the other flying 119 Miles the four that are missing are birds on their first race of the season - they are hens
andy Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 30/30 within an hour of first timer, from Northallerton 131 miles.
Guest Vic Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 As I said, It wasn't the returns I was on about. I lost 1 out of 20. My first 10 birds came within 3 minutes of each other. But what caused only a few to hit town early, in so fast race?
Tony C Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 Typical of north road racing flying into a s/east wind, fancied pigeons struggling, some looked as if they'd been pulled through the wringer backwards, big gaps between first and second arrivals for most, pigeons spooked on arrival. Not down to hawks the route we fly, they don't like that east in the wind up 'em.
Guest IB Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 30/30 within an hour of first timer, from Northallerton 131 miles. Well done Andy. About the only post I've seen that puts a time and distance on the returns, gives a good idea of overall performance, and yours is excellent by any standard. I've 7/8 from 113 miles, but my overall performance is terrible - 7 hours between nos 1 and 7, and apart from 1 & 2 (together) very large gaps between them.
