If you buy birds to race at £99 for 6 then pay your money and take your chance its a numbers game and there must be the odd good one!

If you pay them serious money for a suposidly well bred bird then see how keen they are on having a DNA test!!!!

some cracking delbars  on elimar at the moment  , i think these are stoker,s delbars plus some winning dordin lines  , which i can personally reccomend as these are the same source as mine

good idea i think if i decide to buy from louella i want to race then breed from them get the weaklings out first

 

Sounds like the right decision to me. I bought a pair from Richard and got third free. Raced the program and got 2 left and they were bloody young, for the first race, still got em and my older ones all went to Lamballe BBC 274 mile. I bought 2 Aardens from Louella also.

Every loft breeds rubbish, so weeding out at every stage for me, and the basket will always be the best judge.

my wife bought me  10 distance ybs from louella this year for my birthday wim van leeuwen birds raced them right trough yb program got 5 left ithink that i have probally weeded out the rubbish performed well very consistant ybs i think these are jan arrden based birds arent they

If you buy from louella and want the distance go for the jan aarden birds,theres a lot out there winning with them,my best old janssens came from louella,i have bought some more this year and ime over the moon with them,id have paid a lot more for them else were and these what i got werent cheap.good luck

got my White Delbar (tail got color grey on it) from Jaap van Alphen last Blackpool Show Jan. 2008. I've lost the first cheq pied soontjens hen to cross with. The 2nd hen, J. Geurts Mealy Pid Hen (via Jan de Wijs Jr of Europigeons.nl). Do really like this Delbar & just wonder what yb feathers like next gonna have it. 1st, got grizzle. now got black.

A neighbour bought halfr a dozen lindelaufs and roland janssens this year and got 2 winners, cant complain with that, theres somuch good breeding in them itas to come out somewhere and 1 out of6 is a good average for any loft.

 

Steve stoker Delbars are on Elimar at the moment and really look great, does anyone know what distance he flies with them

always buy close to the champions as possiible, if you buy from a stud to race they are too far removed from champions, better,to,buy children from top performers or breeders and stock them

Thats a different world, as in any successful breed its always better to get directs, how many times on here do you hear the words " buy direct from the performance birds" or "go to entire clearance sales", what they dont say is take the bank manager with you.

Likes of Louella gives the working man a chance to get birds with top bloodlines, albeit diluted, at a reasonable price.

And often with a bit success too.

i'd recomend louella to anyone , maybe not the youngster for racing but for stock birds you can't go wrong, apart from the birds i brought in last year(the youngster's from them have been trained only no racing ) stock i've bought from  louella have always scored in the breeding. i always cross them with local performance birds or other strains . when i first started in 2004 i bought the performance busschaerts, 4 birds no pedigree's these all bred  multiple winner's and prizewinner's(my first ever yb race i was 1st+2nd club 3rd+6th fed with 2 youngster's from these) they went on to breed good birds for me/and friends in club/fed racing . the last few years i've got more into the long distance racing and have switched to louella ardens/wegans/van geels and they are proving very promising also crossed with other's , last year i sent to my first 500 ml race when i sent 2 hens to palamos 753mls(start at the toughest i thought) and 1 got 1 verified 214 th open (i was chuffed) she also flew tarbes 613mls  this year(2nd bird) her sire is out of a dbl g-son of de barcelona paired with a dbl g-dtr inv spirit. i flew 2 long races this year tarbes 613mls and bergerac 514mls got 3 out 3 from tarbes first bird 4th sect 29th wsr nat, and 2 out of 3 from bergerac first bird 9th sect 39th wsr nat. apart from the second bird at bergerac the other 4 are from louellas long distance birds .  i also topped the fed this year with a bird out of a dbl g-son of intelt de joop.  although none of my stock are direct children of louella champions(can't afford them) they will still produce plenty of top birds if your managment is up to scratch.

Great post Thunderboult and congratulations. I think Louella are the best thing that happened to pigeon racing inthe past 40 years, they have made it possible particularly in the 70's and 80's for working class men to have birds in their loft with champion genes in them, today there are many studs that have jumped on the band wagon and perhaps they are more successful but only because they specialise; none has the breadth of families available that Louella has

My only problem with Louella is that the 3 times i have bought old stock birds (between 5 & 6 yrs old) one did,nt fill at all. Terrible service trying to get it sorted out and  then they sent me a bird i did,nt real want as it was a cross bred cock and i purchased an inbred cock for a particuler purpuse i then sold for him for £500 the original bird cost me £1350. The other pair was so hit and miss i dont think i got 3 birds from the 2 birds in 3 yrs i did,nt complain as i had something from them. My cousin had the same problem with an expensive purchase they exchanged him twice no luck and then he gave it up as a bad job. As to the qaulity of these old stock birds could,nt fault them but if they cant replace an expensive purchase i think you should be given  the choice to have your money back if your not 100% happy with the replacement.

Thing with Louella is as you get further away from the champions they are more inbred probably in need of an outcross .I bought two pair this winter and i intend to cross them with a few of my own and see what happen's.

Some nice looking busschaert on louella at the moment, what distance do these birds go to, what sort of chance would I have of getting fertile eggs from them as they are quite old 8/9/10years?

i had a 10 year old dutch hen last year laid no problem you pay your money and you take your chances as for how fly they will far the only sure way to know is fly them

hey i bought a ybbird on pigeon sales for 15 quid this year a grizzle , it won my fed open race yb by 25mins and three weeks later the strain was advertised in bhw for 100 quid each the turned out to be some theo de kruk or something like that , so they were advertised on elimar (europigeons nl ) section after looking at the peddigree of the birds found myself that i already had the bloodlines there based on van de pol pigeons (tournier) pigeons cross van loons , van de pol has a stand at blackpool every year if you wait till the sunday there cheap bought 2 tournier last year and there ybs are still there , p.s tournier is the base strain of a lot of the beligum all rounders check ot elimar look at the grizzles on the last page from geff bebington HIGHLY recommed them
