Wiley Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Many roads lead to rome, and everyone has different methods on how they pair how do you pair? Myself i do, 2 tests, if they look good together on paper, they go to the second stage which i like to call the blind stage, which is taking each possible pigeon in the hand, with eyes absolutely closed, and just go on what i can feel, while handling the bird, balence, feathering, bone structure, muscle, one tail flight ect. How do you pair?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 same love is best pairing of all time unless you want specific pair together then i put them in breeding pen for week take hen away then 3 days later put them together and do asame 3 days later job done
pjc Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Stock are paired to breed what is required, balance, constitution, eye etc where as racers are better and happier allowed to chose there own partner. Would you want to race home to a forced marriage? Phil
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 i would but would stop off now and again ;D ;D

jimmy white Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 i would prefer winner to winner, at any chosen type of race , but if a cock will not take to a hen right away , it wont be forced , ive often found in the past that many of my winners have been bred by just love matches , since pigeon racing began , to my knowledge , no one has built a pair of pigeons together knowing for 100pc certainty that they will produce winners , allthough we,d all like to think that in my experience pigeons will win, if its in them to win, providing the management suits the bird and fancier, winners will and often do come in all shapes and sizes , as a young man [last week ;D] i used to love showing birds , racers , i bred these birds to try and produce the perfect speciman , i cleared the boards in all shows ,,,then my racing declined , it was then i decided to breed on performance intuition, and experience and not by looks or handling , i then won many top races with pigeons exactly like myself ,,,ugly ;D ;D i must admit it is very nice to see a good winner handling and good looking , but not all are like that,, for as many years , the farmers have went to a market and tried to buy the chicken that lays the biggest egg, the cow that produces the most milk etc etc , to this day , these good farmers will tell you , they cannot tell this by looks alone [or trying to handle a cow ;D] most winners come from a line of good pigeons irrespective of looks , that is my opinion anyway ;D for what its worth ;D

OLDYELLOW Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 have to say in answer to this thread that i pair on size then big to small then take eyes in to consideration i'm no eye sign man but i like dark eyes to light eyes in eyes , colouration isnt that important to me as im after winning pigeons , however my pigeons are nicely coloured
smiler Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 does any1 go on eye sign and if so wat wud be best pairings ?????
Wiley Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 does any1 go on eye sign and if so wat wud be best pairings ????? Jack barkel would be a top man to answer this query
kirky Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 does any1 go on eye sign and if so wat wud be best pairings ????? i go by eyesign for stock, the main thing is to avoid putting two with same type of eye together
smiler Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 iv a few pearl eyes and was told not 2 put them together,,,,,was reading Jack barkel stuff it seem really interesting will have to read it again there is a lot to take in,,,,, think il get some eye sign books as well
Guest Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Like Rose just open partition door and let them sort it out themselves
Guest Freebird Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 From my limited knowledge of colour / pattern mating I was surprised to find out that the fancy breeders don't always pair perfect partners as in markings and conformation but pick out ( not easy for a novice ) certain traits to end up with good results. I also read from a fancier who has 20 years experience of rearing top class Catalonian tumblers ( my birds ) from top class stock that you cannot judge a pairing until after their third clutch. Maybe the same for your racers, I don't know but doos are doos after all. Another interesting thread from you Sir.
just ask me Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 the most important factor pigeons just good pigeons and pigeons that are winning today not 10 years ago also when buying stock try to buy birds that are wining in different parts of England Europe in other words not just winning for a handfull of fanicers
Tony C Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 My race birds get to pick their own mates bar the odd nervous cock where I sort out a tame hen for him, helps to settle him easier.
lawrie Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 when i bred fantails the ugliest pairs always produced the best birds...strange.
gooner Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 for me it is best to best, although if you are just starting out you pair what you think is best to best, it has to be a learning curve
little sam Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Race Team pair themselves up, Stock birds i like them to have similar body shape, Big to small and stand back and see if they look good together
