REDCHEQHEN Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Our longest inland race is 262 miles, the shortest channel race is 318 miles. Would the preparation be different ? If so in what way. The birds have been re-paired and expecting to be sitting eggs on day of basketting. Should anything extra be put in the feed ? Will possibly be sending 2 or 4 birds. All have been to the longest inland race atleast twice for the yearlings, 4 times for the two year olds. None have been over the channel before. 2 marcellis, one Jannsen, one Jannsen/Van Loon. 1 x marcellis scored last year 160 mile race, the others have yet to score, but the two yearlings were 1st and 2nd back last week, at 160 miles, all tend to go over the top in National races.... ;D ;D ;D
jimmy white Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 i would tend to leave things as they are,,,, wish you luck
Guest shadow Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Keep thing as they are at 312 miles it is virtually sprinting the need for extra proyien is not needed at this distance
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 20, 2006 Author Report Posted June 20, 2006 Thanks for your input guys, expected to be a south or south west wind at weekend - hope its not a blow home, birds do better in northerlies..... glad you put that in shadow, difference of opinion in partnership ( cos they are HIS cocks ), I think its nearer sprint distance than channel racing. The next jump up is to 392 miles - but we won't be sending.... ;D ;D ;D Just looked at weather and weathermen have changed their minds - west at racepoint, north east at home end, at the moment not too strong a wind - there's plenty of time for that to change :X :X
eastcoaster Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 new start ! does dean pallatt still keep pigeons
shiftty Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 i have always added more barley to there feed
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 27, 2006 Author Report Posted June 27, 2006 UPDATE Our longest inland race is 262 miles, the shortest channel race is 318 miles. Would the preparation be different ? If so in what way. The birds have been re-paired and expecting to be sitting eggs on day of basketting. Should anything extra be put in the feed ? The majority of advice was no change for shorter channel race - and this was the decision made. First bird back was 3rd club ( beaten into third by 0.1ypm :'( ) We were delighted ;D ;D ;D Will be sending 1 of the birds to longer channel race 24th July ;D
jimmy white Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 congrats redcheqhen and wish you luck in your further event
