Guest Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 is anyone scoring with louella jan aardens?
Guest Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 I think they have some outstanding specimens, but dross as well , like most! If you're a good judge and have a few pound in your pocket, they are worth the investment in my opinion.
Guest Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 i have bought double grandchildren from vliejke and invincible spirit and they have scored, but is buyin a kit to race a good idea or buy more breeding stock
Blue Tooner Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Louella Jan Aarden hen (one of a matched pair for 45 quid, no pedigree) bred us 8th sect. 51st open SNFC Alencon last year
thunderboult Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 i like them, i would'nt buy the kits again tried a couple and on the whole not very good, but for breeding i think they're very good. my first bird from tarbes last year was out of a kuyper bros/van geel hen that was in one of the kits i bought. and my first bird from bergerac was out of a van geel hen(g-gdtr of the top birds) and i've another arden hen(g,gdtr of inv.) that's bred some good birds for me and in one loft races(best 14th open europa classic2006) . a dbl g-son of intelt de joop is another that's bred top birds for me upto 1st fed. i like them so much last year i invested in some closer to the tree as they say.
Williedoo Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 I bread a bird that was 6th open y/b national 2005 from louella van geels.
Roland Posted January 12, 2009 Report Posted January 12, 2009 Double grand children won Nationals and internations.
Guest Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 i think the kits arent that dear so i think il try that and if it doesnt work then il not be out a fortune.
blaz Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 1 of my mates bought a kit of 6 from LPW all had cankar i phoned LPW NO JOY HARD LINES SO ALL BIRDS PUT IN BUCKET
ken Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 i bought one from blackpool in 98 for £15 . certificate of orgin i bred one hen from him x with a tuplin barker that hen won bourges 4 times 581 ml to me and she was second once + a hat full of other tickets comb and fed she is on eggs now i hope there full as she getting on
Guest Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 seems to be good and bad stories about louella, but canker is something all pigeons get and louellas pigeons would be no different. it would have been easily cured
thunderboult Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 seems to be good and bad stories about louella, but canker is something all pigeons get and louellas pigeons would be no different. it would have been easily cured i've bought 2 kits from louella (10+6) and about 20 or so birds for stock since i started in 2004 and not a single bird as ever had canker. i had all my birds tested last year(throat swabs and droppings) stock, old and young and the only thing there was worms in some, which they can pick up around the garden.
taffacre Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 i HAve had a few kits of 6 from louella and they were total rubbish,i even sent them letter complaining about the quality and heard nothing. NEVER AGAIN.
thunderboult Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 hi taff, the ones i tried for racing were crap in genral but not sick and 1 or 2 tidy ones came from them. you need a bit of luck i guess. and the fancier plays a big part also i think the kits sometimes are to inbred perhaps and need a bit of vitality putting into them, but the way things are in this country most fancier's are obbsessed with pure this or that.
Roland Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 I'd think thrice or more about buying y/b's in personally. Buy in a kit of old birds and mate and x mate etc. like the glorious chance just gone by at louella's when the get shot of 'Breeders' Have / had too many now, or I certainly would have, should have perhaps. But 3 years from now, I really hope not to have any prisoners. Just aint comfortable with them personally. But a darn site better than having youngsters and losing a fair %tage of them. May have been the 'Breeders though left with the racers ;D ;D ;D But this seasons ending is one I look forward to for sorting out and be on the road of an established set up.
Guest Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 so what seems to be the overall advice? buy stock close to the tree and cross them?
Roland Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Yep, that in one. Then cross the youngsters. The ones that like your set up will stay, and others move on, or dilly dally home at best. 2 - 3 years you will have a fair idea of what you've got and their ability. Trouble is THEN is the time to cross these birds. Then these could cross now back to the original of course!
Guest Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 sounds like a plan, too many people with good results with the louella jan aardens for them to be bad, worth a try i say
kirky Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 louella sell thousands of yb each year so theres bound to a few good ones,
peterpau Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 1 of my mates bought a kit of 6 from LPW all had cankar i phoned LPW NO JOY HARD LINES SO ALL BIRDS PUT IN BUCKET If you can't control cocci kanker and worms, surely your mate should put 'em all in the bucket.
pjc Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 last time we had birds from there every one was sent back!
The Navigator Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 Because Louella send out thousands each year they are bound to get the odd few that score. I have had the best off them and have seen this for myself. Personally I would not go back, as I have had many issues with canker, cocci etc.
VAGIN Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 I would not entertain Louella % wise he must breed some winners If you were breeding 5,000 y/b You are surley going to breed a couple of winners > As a few post have mentioned you dont hear about the sick birds that have arrived at there lofts and when you complain Louella doesnt want too know
