kraftykev Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Hi i was wondering what two strains the members of pigeon basics would pick out of Jan Aarden, Staf van reet or Vandenabeele for one loft racing. Im going to race my Kirkpatricks, Busschaerts and Janssens this year in one loft racing and im now looking forward to next year. I have a few pairs of the above strains, but have to downsize, so one of the strains has to go, so was wondering which two strain you think would be best to keep. All the best Kevin
sapper756 Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Janardens and Vandenabeeles for me
just ask me Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 which ever has top results should stay simple as dont wory about strains if i was u i would keep the best of three strains and cross them would say in generall the jan ardens are more of a distance bird if that helps
GRAHAM MITCHELL Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Jan Aardens for the distance and the Van Reets for the early races.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Just keep the best birds forget strains , after all the sun city was a cross $$$$$$$$$$
just ask me Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 sure most races in loft races are around 350 mile most birds can handle that no prob dont matter what strain
chris h Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 can someone tell me what one loft racing meens?
just ask me Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 can someone tell me what one loft racing meens? sun city mate
OLDYELLOW Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 one loft each person who enters a bird pays to enter it resulting in a one loft race
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Jan Van whatever.Remember whatever they are called, once you aquire them, they are in a new invironment. Dont go for names, go for those that have proved themselves in the basket. Loft conditions, food, medication and trainning will help make the pigeon a winner, not the name of a strain. The sun city winner, now as all the time in the world, to work out just what strain the winning bird is. Rab Smith
Guest Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Kev I'll have the Jan Aardens off you, thanks ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guest Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 doesnt matter what strain it is but the birds you send need to be good in health and bred from birds that dont need allot of looking after the ones that are never up or down when all round about them are getting sick with this and that thats the 1st thing you should look for
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Of strong constatution Frank spot on mate
Guest Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Kev coming down to basics it does matter what starin you keep, if you want to fly 700 mile then the aardens have a far better chance up to 500 the other two starins tend to be better and the odd van reet will get out to 600 mile. I think when people say it's the quality of pigeon they are dead right but there are some families that are not going to take the first 6 at 100 mile and vice versa from 500/700 mile. It is a generalisation but if you do have quality birds from those families in my opinion they are more likely to meet the above generalisation.
grizzal Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 as mentioned keep the best birds ,a name is what u what it to be ;D
jimmy white Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 doesnt matter what strain it is but the birds you send need to be good in health and bred from birds that dont need allot of looking after the ones that are never up or down when all round about them are getting sick with this and that thats the 1st thing you should look for in my opinion , i would say this would be more to the point,,birds with costitution, bred from birds with constitution, if any" strains" were better than others, it would , or should , show up a mile away in these one loft races ,[but they dont ],,,, as o,y says look at the sun city race , a cross [but a lot of cash though ;D, bet the owner wasnt cross anyway ;D ;D]]
OLDYELLOW Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 a Van Claybourne i think was its correct strain name :D :D
kraftykev Posted February 17, 2009 Author Report Posted February 17, 2009 Because i now dont race these birds, but sell them its better to keep them as pure as possible . All my pigeons are from louella, apart from my kirkpatricks that are crossed with Kirkpatricks from mr g Dawes of firs loft and i like to keep them within their familes as they sell better and i let the buyers decide what they mix in with them. The only out crosses i do is breed federation winner to federation winner. I will also be racing these in one loft races this year to see how they do against my inbred familes. Thanks for all your replies
jimmy white Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 a van full, ;D,,,,, of cash for mr claybourne ;D ;D ;D well done mr claybourne :)great going
