This year a couple of our old stock cocks have missed there first round eggs... okay they may fill second time around when weather is milder etc etc.

Thought i would create a thread to get fanciers ideas on this matter and anything that they may have used that has been really effective on an old stager to get him 'sparking' again.

give him a good clipping around the backside , and as andkar say's , vit e , if their in with a lot of head case yearling's , they might be getting knocked off..all the best

If your stock cocks could use speak they would be asking you to try doing it outside in this weather, esp in dundee?!

Sunshine and warmth plus vit.E as the others said.Had we been on the continent however you could have taken them to a vet who would have injected them for you,my mate did this with 1 of his and got him to fill his eggs in dec.and took some for artificial insemination later, cost him mind you, but as he said he's not going to find 1 to replace him so easily.

i use ferti-vit and wheatgerm oil it works for my birds

try a piece of viagra tablet m8 been told this works

who ever told you that ,is talking utter nonsense and i would not advise anyone to give a racing pigeon viagra.

viagra contains a drug that increases blood flow into a human man's "equipment" to enable him to "perform".

it has NOTHING to do with fertility. viagra wont make a human male fertile and it certainly wont make an "old stock cock" racing pigeon fertile ???

In fact ,and i quote "New evidence suggests that the drug could impair your fertility."

i hope you dont take this post personally RACER but i dont want to see any members doing something silly like pushing bits of viagra down their pigeons throats.

... thanks lads, at the moment using Vit.E via drinker once per week from Rohnfried and also Carrs on feed once per week.

this stock section is full of more mature pigeons so i dont think i have a problem with younger pigeons ruining there chances.

the point regarding an injection from vet, what would they be injected with?

i have also heard that the 'female pill' or 'hormone replacement pill' could sometimes help? any thoughts??

yes ! my thoughts are DONT give racing pigeons the human contraceptive pill or HRT drugs.  really dont see what relevance they have regarding fertility in racing pigeons ??

just stick to the wheatgerm oil .

THIS IS WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT THE HUMAN FORM, SO TAKE IT THE BIRD ONE MUST BE THE SAME PRICIPLES

Chorionic Gonadotrophin

How does it work?

Human chorionic gonadotrophin is obtained from the urine of pregnant women. This medicine mimics the action of the pituitary hormone called luteinising hormone which controls the release of eggs from the ovary in women, and controls production of the male hormone, testosterone in men. It is used to stimulate egg release (ovulation)in some infertile women after follicle development has been stimulated with follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). In men it is used in the management of delayed puberty, undescended testes and oligospermia (low sperm count

very interesting Tammy thanks, i maybe should have thought about this being an amatuer competitve bodybuilder.

bodybuilders who administer sources of testosterone artifically via large muscle groups run the risk of natural testorone levels dropping or shutting down, sometimes long term damage is done and the chance of having family is ruined.

therefore it is advised the substance 'chorionic gonadotrophin' is used to counter act (hopefully!)

does anybody know anything regarding doses, timing etc or direct me to a post or site that details this.

the human form comes in 1500.. 2500.. 5000iu generally taken subcutaneously, but could be taken intramuscular

... sorry it was Alf who posted first and Tammy contributed with some useful info, thanks both you anyway

regarding an injection from the vet

i am sure they give them an HORMONE injection

first injection 2 weeks before pairing and a second injection the week they are paired

BELGICA de WEERD have the injection   they recommend waiting until it warms up then phone them up and tell them when you are going to pair up and they will then send the injection as they like it to be as fresh as possible

pills and potions that just make them randy are a waste of money as most older birds are randy but are starting to fire blanks
