Well I've finally done it after a crap first young bird season where I just got a fourth despite grafting like hell I've broke my duck.

My first ever old bird race I took first club and should have had first fed(the fed sec and other fanciers words not mine) but she wouldn't go in and circled for a minute.

It was our first race out of wakefield in a cold north wind with show showers and it was a yearling hen nicknamed raggy as she has a frill on her belly. She was sitting 17 day old pot eggs. Gave me great satsification as one of the club members told me she would never win nowt one night when basketing her as pigeons with frills went down in a cold north wind. well saturday was a very hard day and she didn't go down so ha ha.

She also has tusks which I like in a hen. Slipped chipping egg under her on sunday so I can get a race out of her next week on small young un before getting her down on eggs again.

Sent 11 birds and got 10 back (all yearlings) the hen that was lost was never raced as a YB so was my fault for loosing her for sending her really. Felt good as some people in the club were sending 59's and 40's to the race same throughout the fed and I had a bit of a whinge to my dad as followed his advice and kept the majority of the team at home in case it was a crap race. He told me to stop whining and said one good bird will beat a ton of bad ones and he was right and I was wrong. Lesson learned.

Thanks to everyone on here especially David Barkel for their advice. I was very lucky as well to get one through

Well done, pigeons will take u up one minute and down the next!!!! Its what makes it a great sport.

Damn right I was papping myself when I clocked it in cause it came out of a batch of 5 and I thought the guy up the back of me had one in. I only clicked on I had done well when I went round his loft and they all started saying well done young un.

Aiming to try and get placed or at least have one on the clock for every race will be a tall order but have to try.

Hard through as with the birds being on natural having to experiment to find what makes them tick
