pearse1888 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 is eveyone sending at the weekend with these winds here in northern ireland and its a strong east wind and its absouloutely freezing considering sending but i dont think i will because it could be a disaster whats it like were u are and whats your views on racing on sat :X
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 i think only my experiened birds shall go!
Tony C Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Worse case scenario is east winds accompanied by low unbroken cloud, if that's what's forecast leave them out.
Guest IB Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 BBC 5-day forecast for Saturday 19th for both Edinburgh and Coldstream has been pretty much same for both points over last few days : - 18mph NE Wind , sunny, top temp 8C with humidity dropping 10% between Friday and Saturday. Been 8C here today, bitterly cold in wind since Wednesday afternoon when I cancelled my training because of it. Only difference I can see is lack of cloud cover might compensate for wind chill factor, think wind has been trapped under cloud cover past couple of days? I think I've 4 yearlings ready and they look as if they are up for it, both in looks, behaviour and their training times from the ETS. The others need more roadwork or have more important races in June and July. As other posts and threads have inferred, no point in queering the pitch for the rest of the season, before its even begun.
ozbrit Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 the south lincs fed have cancelled saturdays race do to the weather
jimmy white Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 this last fewdays have been absolutlely bitter here in the lothians [absolutely freezing tonight] same f,c for the week end , this fairly breezy east wind would cut through you brrrrr "when the wind is in the east its neither good to man nor beast"
pearse1888 Posted April 17, 2008 Author Report Posted April 17, 2008 mmmmmm its freezing here tonight i walked across the street there and i had enuff of the cold wind picture a bird in a 100 mile race sack it im not sending if its like this
carlsberg Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 heard that a lot just recently (when the wind is in the east its neither good to man or beast ) but i want to know if a pigeon is classed as a beast
Guest karl adams Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 if i was to send they would be old birds that have not took any cards
ALF Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 was'nt going to send many this week anyway but not sure i'll be sending any after having a look at the forecast for saturday 20 mph east wind here on saturday at 1pm predicted
Guest shadow Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 if i was to send they would be old birds that have not took any cards old birds that have not took cards do not desereve a perch better of with younger ones which will have to prove themselves when the weather warms up
pearse1888 Posted April 17, 2008 Author Report Posted April 17, 2008 hard pigeons will do it the rest wont
carlsberg Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 all my yearlings are going on the north road for the 1st time so it will be interesting to find out what they are made of
carlsberg Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 i have consideration for my birds but they were bred for the purpose of racing not being left in the loft
bewted Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 So where mine and they did race and im definately not just a fair weather flier but i have also learnt there are times when you dont send and cold biting east wind is one you dont send birds in rose !!!
Roland Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 if you dont try you dont know Well finavon won the National ... after the 23rd fence pile up. Would have probably been pulled up if not for that. Wouldn't have been any money on it for a repeat performance. Yes you will get some decent birds back 've no doubt! But a pit bull needn't bite me for me to know it will hurt. If anything, for the averages etc. send 1 or 2 older seasoned birds, they won't like it, but will at least home with the rest. Know many that have sent boys to do a man's job... when losing their pide they shrug it off their shoulders by saying 'Ah well I thought they were decent birds, but I was obviously wrong... still no good now, PROBABLY never was'! eekkk!
