pigeonman007 Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Hi all, Saw some nice looking ebony aardens on Louella webcam yesterday, just wondering if anyone keeps these pigeons and are they successful at distance or more shorter distance? Incidentally they were on Louella site for £150 for 6 no pedigree or £360 for 6 with pedigree.... expensive pieces of paper lol

greenlands Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 "Incidentally they were on Louella site for £150 for 6 no pedigree or £360 for 6 with pedigree.... expensive pieces of paper lo" Paper pigeons cost more than the real thing,no wonder there's so much rubbish these days. £ 210's worth of paper that's a lot of toilet rolls.Lindsay
Guest Posted May 1, 2009 Report Posted May 1, 2009 The ones i saw had a minimum of 3 generations since they were raced!
Guest HawkBait Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I bought a few from louella they were 65 pound a piece and come with a 3 generation pedigree complete with spelling mistakes the birds are healthy enough but there damn wild ugly birds iv bred a few young ones of them il see how they go
Guest Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 a bit far from the tree but if you have them, try them and if they dont score bin em!! simple!!! like everything you buy
peterpau Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I have some ebony aardens in the nest from a pair of eggs I was given. We'll see. I also have some beauty Buschaarts from the same stud and they look great.
weirbridge Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 could someone please enlighten me to what was meant by problems with the stud in question thanks
pjc Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 it appears people have been having problems with some young birds purchased.
weirbridge Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 well i have two young fanciers here that are devastated at the moment and i have been racking my brain to get to the root of the problem but think this thread as just hit the nail on the head. at the moment i have killed all there youngbirds apart from a couple that had not had contact with the louella birds i even took the drastic measure of pulling there young bird loft down and burning it and had to order a new one im sick my wife is sick and my sons are bewildered
pjc Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 thats prob your answer! did you return the birds/rings and did you have any birds tested?
weirbridge Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 i phoned them the day after picking the young birds up to tell them that there was a big problem with the birds i had picked up the day before and asked them if they had anyone else that had problems. they told me they didnt know of any other problems and told me to kill them and they would replace them but my sons have been devastated and last thing that was on my mind was bringing more birds home from them i have videos of the birds loss of use of legs and heads between legs unable to lift off the floor i had to also kill 18 youngsters of there own that they had contact with some of which they had spent all there own savings on buying the best stock they could afford including two daughters and a son of a national winner they have a new loft coming monday but im scared to death of buying anymore youngbirds
allenyeates Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Weirbridge where are you? I could possibly help your sons out with a couple of well bred Y.B.s No charge just carriage
Roland Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 if you want to bring disease into your loft buy them Think that's a bit strong matey.
weirbridge Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 hi im absolutely gutted its not often you will see me sat in the garden trying to hide my tears from my sons but i feel physicaly sick they watched each egg develop and were excited when they hatched and tossed coins to see who got which one out of each pair it brought back good memories for me. and for what to sit down and have to cull all there cherished youngbirds i felt helpless and felt i had let them down. we are in catterick north yorkshire im sat here pretty upset so dont mind me thank you very much for the offer i dont mind paying for some more youngbirds for them i just hope that everything will be ok with the new loft thats coming from blakes on monday
pjc Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 you prob didn't need to replace the lofts just thoroughly dissinfect with virkon-s etc. You are welcome to some youngsters from here latter on but i would sugest if you get birds from different places keep them seperate for a week or 2 just in case before putting them in together. Did you get any bitds tested? If you send the rings back just ask for a refund.
peterpau Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 Think you should have a pm on 'em if you can. Best find problem and then look for your money back. I've had good birds from same stud, but have heard he has had problems this year. Don't let it get on top of you, tiz always worth another try.
Craig05 Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 I Have had the same problem from this stud. Started up with pigeons this year and had all my youngsters wiped out within two weeks of taking delivery of babies from them. One of their youngsters fell over dead within 4 days of arriving. i must say it is soul distroying and i considered calling it a day before i had even raced my first race. I have been lucky enough to get help from some local pigeon men to try and start again but very nervouse times at the moment. Wouldnt wish it on anyone. :o :o
weirbridge Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 didnt have to have them tested it was obvious what the problem was within 24 hours. they made a point of telling me twice they had just vaccinated them before collection something which stuck in my head for some reason and next morning 2 of them were in quite a state with head stuck on floor and no sense of direction . fair enough at first i thought it was possible to be a reaction to the vaccine but the quickness it moved through them seemed to me to be a lot more than a reaction and there was no way they were coming around and wasnt a very nice sight. i know it might sound a bit of a hasty reaction to dispose of the young bird loft but i think it will be the right one
pjc Posted May 13, 2009 Report Posted May 13, 2009 disposeing was the best course of action but it should have been reported to DEFRA so the source could be also checked and tested. After vaccination they are not protected immediatly and I think it was posted a while ago they havn't got full protection for a couple of weeks.
