john@formula 1 lofts Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I think the one John Howman run this year was a perfect model to follow plenty of info and most important to me was the birds always come first. there was issues with health but if you can learn from that you are half way there IMO. We would be up for it
REDROCKET Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 £150 for 2 birds both activated =£30,000 , 200 entrants= 400 birds race program to cover north south east & west if possible. pay out £1000 in hot spot prizes £10,000 in the main event and you keep the change, that gives you about £15,000 to run it.

maverick Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 you said you did not drink you must have been on the drink did you not promise me the first two rounds lol that juice you were drinking must have been good stuff
Guest strapper Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 i would start off with a small amount say 150-200 birds, costs would be down and its not gonna be a knock if it doesnt work out. the experience would be a god send and you could easily train this amount. get sponsors and couriers on board as already stated. i would also suggest seeing a corn merchant for sponsorship of food. a trailer could be converted to train these birds. only a few idea,s.
BLACK W F Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 you said you did not drink you must have been on the drink did you not promise me the first two rounds lol that juice you were drinking must have been good stuff it was top class but not that good pm me if you want a pair of sprinters or dist i ,m sure there,ll be something
Guest mick bowler Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I think the one John Howman run this year was a perfect model to follow plenty of info and most important to me was the birds always come first. there was issues with health but if you can learn from that you are half way there IMO. We would be up for it Agree with that John. One of the biggest problems you WILL have running a OLR is illness, so you need a plan on how to deal with it when it happens. John had a problem and dealt with it in the right way, and as John says, info was updated very regularly, even the bad news! I asked about the health policy of a OLR near me, so he told me a local vet ran regular tests. I rang the vet and asked could he look at a pigeon for me, told me he did'nt really do pigeons, enough said i think! Probably would be interested.
Guest frank dooman Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 ive had many birds in lots of thease races the two main thing to stop fanciers entering is the info coming on a regular bassis and the main one is keeping the birds well and ready for the races get they two right and you are half way there
pigeonpete Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 Have take all your comments on board, and thought them over!!! What are peoples thoughts on me using birds from 1 source, and not sending there own birds? would stop alot of the hassle with birds from everywhere=problems. would people still enter if it were not there birds being raced? Again any positives or negatives, I am happy to go with the majority, Also think that the starting off smaller would be a good idea, maybe 150/200 birds. I better walk before i can run. keep the ideas coming either on here or by pm. thanks
BLACK W F Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 pete i would go with 200 max try and cut a deal with one of the studs for racing take all from one place and draw lots for the ones you got charge £60 a bird take out cost of bird and expences try and get sponcers and race for whats left auction birds off at end of season put whats made as a start pot for following year

pjc Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 I agree 200 max but not convinced about all from one source. I can understand why but to me the concept of one loft races is to test your birds on a level playing field against others. When receiving birds they should be received in small batches and isolated for a few days before introduction but even having all birds from one source won't eliminate the chances of sickness etc.

pigeonpete Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 what distances you looking at pete with this one loft race you setting up all the best. You mean for the fianl race mate? If so will be looking at newton abbot or eastbourne, or east prawle. newton abbot, approx 185 eastbourne 202 approx. east prawle approx 200 depending on if they go with the fed, or on there own, Again what would people prefer, a lib with over 1000 other birds for the final race, or up on there own? Depends wether fed would let me aswell :-)
pigeonpete Posted January 22, 2010 Author Report Posted January 22, 2010 Yes thanks, is that with your own birds, Would you enter if they were from a single source?
