ryesway Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 hello all , just wanted no if any of you use lime on water droppings after cleaning them up or is there any other whitenig product thanks alot ryan
OLDYELLOW Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 bianco also known as loft white , available through columbine as bianco and in 25 kg sack by natural , i would be addressing the primary problem 1st rather than the secondary problem , give your birds som barely it will stop the droppings been so wet
Guest IB Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 You could use garden / agricultural lime, calcium carbonate, which is natural limestone flour costing around £4 for 25kg. Or a floor dressing, a lot dearer, but does a different job: as well as making the place fresh & clean looking, as they are dry disinfectants, will also raise the hygiene levels in the loft by killing the likes of cocci and worm eggs, virus and bacteria in the droppings & on all floor & wall surfaces it sticks to. Stalosan kills insects, grubs & eggs too by sticking to them. It's a reddish powder. Harker's Loft Treatment is white powder, scented.. Harker's Loft Treatment is sold in 10kg tubs + shaker; £25?; Stalosan is sold in 5kg & 25kg bags; £14 & £30. I use both, week-about.
ryesway Posted October 18, 2008 Author Report Posted October 18, 2008 thanks guys am sorting the first problem out now , but i will get some floor dressing anyway , thanks again for your help as ive only just started ive got to find these things out thanks again ryan
OLDYELLOW Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 i use deep litter much easier to maintain , i started using it when i went on holliday i prefered the scraper and was looking to remove it when i got back but i was supprise how healthy the birds were and how happy they were , so i have it in every loft now Stalosan f is a great product can sprinkle this on top
cemetary Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 I use floor granules is some of my sections, then the other sections the scraper, works pretty good for me.
Wiley Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 scraper and blow torch find u get far more control and watch over droppings
ryesway Posted October 18, 2008 Author Report Posted October 18, 2008 i use deep litter much easier to maintain , i started using it when i went on holliday i prefered the scraper and was looking to remove it when i got back but i was supprise how healthy the birds were and how happy they were , so i have it in every loft now Stalosan f is a great product can sprinkle this on top how often do you have to change this deep litter mate
OLDYELLOW Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 i knock out the lumps , but once it starts smelling of ammonia i sprinkle loft white on to remove smell then if smells again its out it depends on number of birds can last up to 3 months and well worth it just lay after a few weeks sprinkle on some Stalosan f then when smells add some loft white
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 if you have grills all round bottom of loft there will be no smell of amonia if there is then its damp in my opinion and no good for birds mine was bonedry never smelt only sometimes round drinker then i put it in troughs along front loft so no water in loft at all just gutter drinker outside
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Blow torch ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D in deep litter
OLDYELLOW Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 nope no damp in my loft but i have a kean sense of smell ammonia is present when there faecal matter , when ammonia is present with heat causes gases these gases if not properly ventilated can cause problems the floor white eliminates these smells and drys the dropping more readily
Guest Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D in deep litter Nope just good old fashioned wood floor and perches!!
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 yes but surly if you rake every day its better as you dont get build up of crap under birds perches and therefor should not smell
OLDYELLOW Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 your right if tossed or raked over this would improve the bedding and stop it from smelling
ChrisMaidment08 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 your right if tossed or raked over this would improve the bedding and stop it from smelling i raked under perches this stops build up rest is like bone dry so soon drys out vents help even if covered up with beddding as air still penatrates moveing water out of loft was best idea of all birds soon find it
OLDYELLOW Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 i may of been busy when had build up

Roland Posted October 19, 2008 Report Posted October 19, 2008 Well closed down a section this afternoon. All real clean and scraped like. Vykilled one section that is now empty. Will blow lamp it tomorrow then rubb garden lime into all the wood. Will paint the boxes and walls later on, and wax the floors. then another section etc. Soon as moult is through I will jabb them all again. Feed is a little linseed before main feed. Then it is maples and barly wheat mixture. Maples are £12 20p here now, and Tic Beans none! So am looking at Cow / Field peas if available... or horse beans if I can get any.
ryesway Posted October 19, 2008 Author Report Posted October 19, 2008 thanks for all your replys lads
