Coccidiosis Vaccine

Live Oocysts, Chicken Isolates

For vaccination of chickens against Coccidiosis as directed.

STORE IN REFRIGERATOR UNDER 7°C (45°F). DO NOT FREEZE.

Read Full Directions Below Carefully

Use entire contents when first opened.

Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.

Store vaccine in refrigerator under 7°C (45°F).

Gentamicin is added as a bacteriostatic agent.

Coccivac-B Caution

Burn containers and all unused contents.

COCCIVAC-B is a vaccine for the protection of chickens against coccidiosis caused by 4 species of coccidia: E. acervulina, E. maxima, E. mivati, and E. tenella. This vaccine could be administered via spray on feed, drinking water, spray cabinet or by the individual eye spray method in accordance with directions below.

Using Medicated Feeds And Coccivac

COCCIVAC is not ordinarily recommended for use on chickens receiving a feed containing a coccidiostat or high levels of antibiotic. After vaccination, it may become necessary to use high levels of drugs for treatment of disease conditions other than coccidiosis. If such drugs, with coccidiostatic activity, are used during the first or second week after vaccination with COCCIVAC, revaccination with COCCIVAC is recommended.

Feed Spray Application

Recommended For Vaccination Of Healthy Chickens During First 3 Days Of Age (preferably At First Day).

1. Do not use any medicated drinking water or water disinfectant 24 hours before and after vaccination or during vaccination.

2. Feed sprinkled on paper under the feed line increases the exposure of chicks to the vaccine.

3. Dilute each 1000 dose vial of Coccivac with 400 mL of non-chlorinated water.

4. Mix well and place in clean garden type pressure sprayer.

5. Spray the diluted vaccine over the surface of the feed. Agitate the sprayer during administration.

6. For best results, the vaccine should be sprayed on all of the feed just prior to placement of the chicks.

7. Avoid wetting the feed. Proper application will only dampen the surface of the feed.

8. Allow the chicks sufficient time to ingest the oocysts on the feed before placing more feed in the pans or on the paper.

Drinking Water Administration

Recommended For Vaccination Of Healthy Chickens Between 4-14 Days Of Age (preferably At 10 Days).

1. Discontinue the use of any medicated drinking water or water disinfectants 24 hours before and after vaccination and while vaccinating.

2. Thoroughly rinse waterers with CLEAN WATER ONLY. Do not use cleaning agents or disinfectants at the time. Be sure you have provided enough waterers to permit all chickens to drink at the same time.

3. Chickens should be slightly water-starved to encourage them to drink when the vaccine is given. The idea is to make them thirsty WITHOUT CAUSING STRESS. Remove all water vessels from pens and withhold water along these general guidelines:

During HOT weather - from 2 to 4 hours but not more than 4 hours.

During COOL weather - from 4 to 6 hours.

4. Measure 9.5 liters (2.5 gals.) of non-chlorinated drinking water into pail or tub for each 1000 doses to be given.

5. Put stabilizer powder into the water and stir. Allow to set for 1-2 minutes then mix well.

6. Open vial of vaccine and pour contents into water-stabilizer mixture. Rinse vaccine vial well with water-stabilizer.

7. Stir water-stabilizer-vaccine mixture thoroughly.

8. Now you are ready to pour water-vaccine mixture into waterers. Place waterers in all parts of the brooder house as all chickens must drink the water to become vaccinated.

DO NOT GIVE CHICKENS ANY WATER WHICH DOES NOT CONTAIN VACCINE AT THIS TIME.

9. Keep vaccine-treated water before chickens until it is consumed.

10. Do not use any medicated drinking water or water disinfectants until 24 hours after the vaccine-water mixture has been consumed.

Spray Cabinet Administration

Recommended For Vaccination Of Healthy Chickens At One Day Of Age.

1. Use diluted vaccine as directed for each coarse spray vaccinating machine.

When using a SPAH spray cabinet, we recommend diluting each 1000 doses of vaccine to 210 mL. Use non-chlorinated water.

2. Add the vaccine solution to pressure reservoir of the spray apparatus. DO NOT ADD WATER STABILIZER TO SPRAY SOLUTION.

3. Prime and adjust the machine as indicated on the machine operating instructions.

4. Place boxes holding 100 chickens each on the conveyor belt or in machine. Activate the spray head.

5. Using a SPAH machine, each box of 100 chicks receives 21 mL of vaccine solution.

Eye Spray Administration

Recommended For Vaccination Of Healthy Chickens At One Day Of Age.

For each 1000 doses of vaccine, rehydrate in 26 mL of non-chlorinated water. Each chicken should receive 0.03 milliliters of the product.

Full directions for use of the Biojector-Immunizer are available from Schering-Plough Animal Health.

General Information

- Unhealthy chickens should not be vaccinated.

- Chickens may be started on paper, but it should be removed and chickens should be on litter by the 4th day after vaccination. Chickens must have access to their droppings as reinfection is required to give immunity.

- Chickens raised in batteries, or on wire, cannot be effectively vaccinated by COCCIVAC. Chickens started in batteries, or on wire can be effectively vaccinated if they are placed on litter not later than the 4th day after vaccination.

- Moisture is necessary for oocysts to sporulate. If litter conditions are extremely dry during the vaccination period, sprinkling or spraying the litter (to slightly damp) with water is recommended.

- If there is a noticeable reaction from COCCIVAC, it usually occurs between the 12th and 14th days after vaccination. Do not treat for coccidiosis unless mortality or severe morbidity is directly attributable to coccidiosis. When positive diagnosis is made, treat with sulfaquinoxaline, sulfamethazine or amprolium in the drinking water. Treatment for 48 hours will usually be adequate.

- Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.

- Use entire contents of each vial when first opened.

- Store vaccine in refrigerator under 7°C (45°F). DO NOT FREEZE.

- Caution: Burn container and all unused contents.

Coccivac-B Caution

The capacity of this vaccine to produce satisfactory results depends on many factors, including but not limited to conditions of storage and handling by the user, administration of the vaccine, health and responsiveness of individual animals and degree of field exposure. Therefore, directions for use should be followed carefully.

do you not think the farmers don't know, about all the  type of coxoids there are like :) this is to do with keeping  thousands of birds together,  maybe as Manny as 3,000,  healthy making sure that  cocci never eats away at the nutrient  hairs in its gut  used at a day old  and we worry about giving it to feeding birds
