ally mac Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 I have a hen I got for stock that layed odd shaped eggs, the shells had a rough finish and none developed. She has stopped laying altogether now. Any ideas on what might be worth trying. She is in with the rest of the birds that are laying fine, gets grit and minerals etc. Al.

Had her seperated before too Alan, still nothing. I have stuck 2 dummies under her just now which they are sitting, will leave them for a week or so then pull them. Dont know if it might give them a wee push.

ally mac Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 rough shelled eggs i would say it is a infection of the oviduct The first eggs from her were even worse, really soft, no proper shell. They improved slightly each round till I got the 2 in the picture. They were the last she layed a couple of month ago. How would I tell if its an infection, how would it be traeted? Al.

pjc Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 i think she could have come to the end of her usefulness
ally mac Posted May 26, 2009 Author Report Posted May 26, 2009 Bought the pair at the end of last year, didnt break the bank but was keen to get a few rounds of them. They were in great condition when they arrived and still seem in good health but for the eggs. Definately only 3 or 4, cant remeber which ring numbers which without going to the loft so definatly no more than 4 year old. Hasnt been flying out as i got them towards the end of last year to breed. Al.
