pjc Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 baytril won't cure a deficiency if thats what it is but will strip the bird of all natural imunity and make it more likely to pick up other ailments!
rembrant2coo Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 baytril won't cure a deficiency if thats what it is but will strip the bird of all natural imunity and make it more likely to pick up other ailments! i agree with you entirely to me its calcium deficiency that is wrong but if you want to destroy all immunity then i would think wisely about what you are about to do
eastcoaster Posted March 8, 2008 Author Report Posted March 8, 2008 i agree with you entirely to me its calcium deficiency that is wrong but if you want to destroy all immunity then i would think wisely about what you are about to do Baytril will be last resort ,Had a lot off dif suggestions about what it could be and thank everyone but we think the best is to try and get a vet to have a look.
Guest IB Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 we think the best is to try and get a vet to have a look. Especially for a top pigeon - best advice you can take. At least with an avian vet there's no guessing, you get the correct diagnosis + the proper treatment + peace of mind.
pjc Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Make sure it is an avian vet or a vet that is experienced with pigeons. Most vets havn't got a clue and just prescribe baytril as a "cure it all" because they don't know what the peoblem is! One thing they never prescribe is aftercare!
Simeon Turner Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Try Retford Poultry 01777 703011 - Libby Harrison Without testing the droppings you can only 2nd guess what it is. You can get the droppings in the post Monday and have the results Tuesday - and start treating the next day. What are the birds droppings like? I agree with the articles on here, I would guess either a Calcium difficiency or Paratyphoid. With regards to Baytril, it doesn't strip the birds of all its immunity, it isn't 'Chemotherpy' it is a synthetic, agreed it does strip all the bacteria out of its gut, but you can easily put it back with probiotics or even natural yoghurt. Baytril is good when you want to use it for specifics, ie treating a problem that requires antibiotics to cure. Wouldn't use it for routine precautionary treatments.

Hi Droppings are a little wet but not too bad, we have some treatment coming from a very good expert in these matters! so we will see!!!
