Diamond dave Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 Hi all, - A very happy, healthy and successful new year to all. I am hoping that someone can tell me through thier experience if oversized eggs tend to be infertile? I have one that is close to 1 3/4" long (45mm) from a stock pair that I want to underlay. Many thanks D.D.
Guest j.bamling Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I have had a big long egg this year they are sometimes full but never hatch out !!!
kirky Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 my indian fantails eggs were up to 2 inches long always hatched ok, an old racer stock hen lays large eggs hers are always full so i dont think you will have a problem.
Tony C Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 In my experience I’ve found oversized eggs that big rarely hatch. Slip it under a pair (sit 3 eggs) and keep your eye on it, if it does start to chip slip it under a pair where maybe only one of their eggs is full.
kirky Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 some breeds of birds lay large eggs every nest, i think the problem of not hatching is when it is a one off and the hen has had a problem laying ie cold weather.
jimmy white Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 i think a lot depends how much ,,the" oversize" is ,, ive had hens lay very big eggs [same hens do this most times] have had no problem with them hatching,,,also hens that lay very small eggs , with no probs of hatching
