Guest frank dooman Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 wouldnt the fall of down be nothing to do with the garlic in the water but more to do with them not drinking much water at all due to not being fed, yes 100%
Roland Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Garlic in water stops them drinking a lot.... they hate it and drink just enough. So again it is a two fold effect. One they cut back on water - to much of that and you may well have trouble, and two, they are getting a great preventive.
little sam Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 Not feeding will stress the digestive system, You should be avoiding any type of stress when moulting
Roland Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 I personally don't think so Sam. Not for a minute. Indeed it certainly helps the system and further can help you to control and start a new regime in my view.
DeDarren Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 The legendary John Crowder of Mansfield fasts his pigeons for 3 days at a time throughout the winter once the moult is complete. He makes sure there is plenty of water though. According to the author of 'Feed to Win', fasting induces the pigeon's system to devour anything lingering within the pigeon's body for nutrition, such as viral matter and strongly recommends fasting as a health curative.

Guest slugmonkey Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 My birds pretty much eat the same all year but they also have open hole I do occasionaly make them field for a couple of days and sometimes make them go find water ( I live in an agricultural center always grain on ground and water 1 1/2 miles or less away ) I think this makes them more survivible on smash races as I always seem to get a disproportinate number home when everyone else is losing a lot of birds I do sometimes make my birds eat all of the grain avaible on the floor and wait a day or 2 before giving more
