OLDYELLOW Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 aint heard of them since 80's :X :X :X :X :X hes showing his age
BLACK W F Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 they where flown late 70s 80s very fast telfer brought them in from belg used to travel there a lot on buisness he hammered the opisition with them upto around the 200ml mark flew in Motherwell i believe
kelly tom Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 The majority of Robert Telfers Black Jets were stolen from his lofts back in the 1980s.He topped the Lanakshire Fed in 5 of the 6 young bird races if my memory serves me right or it could have been all 6.
pigeonpete Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 aint heard of them since 80's :X :X :X :X :X hes showing his age before my time!!! must be someone with some of the blood still somewhere?
kelly tom Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 He bought a pair and i think that he called them Madamme and Monseur and they bred him a load of Fed Topppers.
Guest bigda Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 yep these birds would beat 12,000 birds every week, at the sprint races sold them abroad there might be some kicking about but i dont think they will be much good, but in the 70s these could not be beat, in any race up to 150 mile :o :o :o
kelly tom Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 I am trying to think back but i am sure that he took the first 6 positions in the Fed in at least 5 of the races against birdage of over 12000
BLACK W F Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 kelly tom you are bang on the money he anilated all opisition with them that was the name of the no1 pair but he had more than the one pair as i think he bought them as y/bs but the deal was the guy raced them and he got them at the end of the season which he did but never new they where stolen
pigeonpete Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 I am trying to think back but i am sure that he took the first 6 positions in the Fed in at least 5 of the races against birdage of over 12000 wow!! that is some going!! why would they be no good now bigda? :-/
BLACK W F Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 was not only in the 70s was the 80s aswell is that what you think they would still be winning no doubt about that
kelly tom Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Black w/f I think that was the deal i dont think that the fancier was a household name but i believe that Robert picked them out of the nest as young birds there was a write up in The Gazzete about these birds back then.
kelly tom Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Thinking back Robert picked the main pair out of the nest but the deal was that the fancier would race them and Robert would get them at the end of the season. The paiir done really well racing and the fancier was reluctant to let Robert have them but he stuck to his word and this pair turned out to be Madam and Monseur.
Guest bigda Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 wow!! that is some going!! why would they be no good now bigda? :-/ they would not be origanals over 30 years ago
BLACK W F Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 yes kelly tom your right but think there was more than 1 pair brought back i think the ck of the pair won 3-4 x1st but not sure they where good birds in the hands of a very good fancier
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 The early eighties would be the time when he was at his prime with the black jets and as Tom says topped the fed in 5 out of the 6 races, pigeons were all named Cara --- Bought 2 young birds from Robert in 2006 were they both scored being 1st and 3rd west section approx 3000 birds in a hard day if my memory serves me correct. Have not heard of anyone scoring with the black jets for 15-20 years, Robert then got the bug for 500 mile racing and purchased some performance distance pigeons??? Believe some of the Black Jet blood came from Wm Geerts.
Guest BRYANBROCK Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 as there are plenty guys on here do any of them still fly the black jets of douglas telfer they where very fast up to 200 mls do any remember them hi alan if i remember correctly larry campbell used to fly these birds with great succcess dont if he still has any now tho ?????
BLACK W F Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 think you could well be correct Gareth they where very fast i do know Douglas brought other birds into the country from his travels in belg and germany the black jets just seemed to disappear what a pity

BLACK W F Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 yes i know he.s been living at black dog for a long time i bought them off him when he had the lofts next to davey at broad hill and i handled a lot of his jets i also handled his other doos inclusive of the sect winners cant say i handled any jets that where 12 or 13 flighted though but that dont mean they did not have 12-13 flighted and i,m sure Larry had them a lot further than 150 mls
