Guest joshdonlan Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 When cleaning out this morning my best bloody cock flew out over my head He is sitting eggs and is still in the area sitting on a roof down the road, although he is unbroken to the loft and has always been a prisoner. What is the best thing to do?

Williedoo Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Can his hen be let out,if so I would do that if the cocks still about.
holmsidelofts Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 pray mate, theres not a lot you can do. Hes either gonna come back or he wont. one thing i would always do is have a second door system inside the loft if you have prisoner stock, that way you never have a problem with that happening. I have been there myself mate and it aint good when it happens but you soon learn to make sure it doesnt happen again. Is he the father of the bird in the picture you posted. Jas.

What is the best thing to do? If you can still see him your got a good chance of getting him back, try getting a few bird out. Regards ;D
sapper756 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Let a team of hens out, preferably hens that are not paired, as they will be keen on the cock, and hopefully attract him to the loft, good luck m8
hotrod Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 josh if his hen is broke take her down to the roof that he is sitting on and let her fly up to him ,ps dont worry about eggs float them until they come back in . good luck

The thing thats pissed me off is i do have 2 doors I left them both open though and he flew off out. Yes he is the father to the bird i posted. What would you do with his hen? Pair the son to him? Ive got 3 cocks and a hen off him already?
Guest joshdonlan Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 hes gone now almost given up on him. He was my foundation cock. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do with his hen? I have sons and daughters off him.
Guest peter.j Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 float the eggs under another pair and the son most like him put back to his mother
Guest gladdo Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 yeah as peter said ... can i ask do you have a phone number ring on him by any chance and is he transfered to you .... id pass word around to fellow fanciers that a cock has got out on you mate but dont tell them what its bred as they will then keep it !!!!! mikey
sapper756 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Don,t give up yet m8, get your hens out at first light tomorrw, he may still be hanging around
Guest joshdonlan Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Yes the bird is transferred to me, but no phone ring on him. There is only 1 pigeon guy near me and like i say he keeps street peckers, all sorts so if he goes anywhere it will be there.

owen101 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 i had one in the heavy winds when my trap blew of and a few got out all stock never been out and in the end i lost 1 out of 8 if he is around let the birds out even if not in sight when he sees them he might come back mate
Guest IB Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Don't give up so soon. This is the first time in his life this bird has been out in the wide world - would you come back in an hour? Good sign that he sat on the roof for a while, he's already got an 'invisible' fix on where he lives, now he has a visual memory to go with it. Let the birds stay out, and if they don't bring him down before nightfall, get them back out first light tomorrow. Good luck.
Guest bigbok Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 move the eggs as said and keep a eye out for him if he fails to turn up mate the young birds together then keep the better ones mating him to his mother will move you towards the mothers genes and futher from the cock birds in the mean time ask the guy yo ugot the cock from for a brother or close relly this way you have somewhere for the sibling mating s to be paired hope he turns up though i lost a bird for over a month and one day he was on my next door neighbours shed
ally mac Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Put your birds out throughout tomorrow if you can Josh. he might still be there, might even take a day or two, fingers crossed. Al.
