ron123 Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 i mated all my stock pigeons together new years day.i bonded all birds and pairing went really well except one cock is a real fighter he is bonded to box on bottem shelf but also wants box on both sides left side yesterday had to break them apart so i locked them up again.today absolute murder never seen so much blood both pigeons were not reconisable.that cock destrided quite cock on other side.i took cock out and hen what should i do.
Guest Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 stick him in a spare section by himself for a few days. could try him back then see if hes calmed down . andy.
BLACK W F Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 mate if you want harmony cull the one thats doing all the fighting otherwise you will have nowt but problems thats what i would do
pjc Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 only takes 1 rogue to upset a compartment, break others eggs etc etc
Tony C Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Put a plastic clip on ring on the opposite leg to he’s ring leg, tie a piece of string to the two rings so he’s feet cant move more than 3 inches apart. This will not allow him to get a purchase in the box when fighting, the other cocks will be able to push him out easily.
Guest frank dooman Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 thats a very hard situation to deal with 1st of all they type are usualy the best racers and if you stick him in another sec that only makes it worse unless you can keep him there all season i would persevere get a stick and stand in the loft every time he goes near the other nest box gently flick him off it will take some time ive also tried puting another cock in his box he then wants to guard his own box but at the end of the day you will have to let them sort it out if you wait till the eggs come they will get smashed i have even seen it calm down just to restart when the y/birds are hatched dont lose the head like i did every time i go into that sec he goes daft by the way that was my 1st riems last year 576mls
Simeon Turner Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 If it was me I would lock the cocks up where the cock is trying to go, let the others out after a few days. Give it a few days, then let the other cocks back out. If they still fight, lock the fighter in for a few days - a bit of patience will solve the problem. Don't kill it

Good idea, had the same problem last year, i culled the one that lost his box and then shut his box up so the other cock could not get in it, turned out to be my most consistant pigeon, and bred a winner, i used that box to motivate him but when i let a young cock take over he held it this year and the good cock gave up on it,
ron123 Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 all good advise but i think i have a real chicken fighter on my hands i have tried locking him in his own box for days then let other cocks out ets locked them up let him out for a day or 2 but he is a street fighter my mate was over today and he said in all his years he never seen pigeons so bloody and unreconisable
Guest youngzimmy Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 had yhe same problem years ago cost me a couple of realy good doos i gave him a section to himself in tyhe bottom of the wheelie bin end of problem
ron123 Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 cant really kill him cost me a few bob but then again could cost me even more money if i keep him . i will try the string idea seems to be good but condition of this bird now will be a few days before i can put him back in section and by then eggs will be around.
Guest IB Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Don't think I've had the problem as bad as others describe. Often seen a cock in wrong box and thought he's the baddie, and locked him in his own box, only to find later the other cock was the one who'd started it and he'd just followed the intruder back to his box for Round 2. I just lock them up in their box for the day. I let them out next day, and if anyone goes to wrong box, he gets locked up again for the day, the others remain free. Soon gets the message home, but I've had a few occasions I've had to keep fighting cocks totally apart until youngsters were shifted .. needed eyes in back of my head.
ron123 Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 thanks back to work tomorr so cant watch them during the day but i will have to sort something out thanks for your help
Guest youngzimmy Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 balence what he cost you against harmony in the loft he could cost you more than you paid for him
slinky slitheroe Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 The best thing to do is when you see him going into the other box slap him about with your hand and throw him out .Keep doing that and he wont be long getting the message.

Guest Glen Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Try Tony C,s idea ,it works. The other cocks will give him a bit of a thrashing and cool him out.
Guest frank dooman Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 had yhe same problem years ago cost me a couple of realy good doos i gave him a section to himself in tyhe bottom of the wheelie bin end of problem every single bird that has done anything for me or bred anything has been a fighter i had 1 who in the end had to have a sec on his own but he did breed me a £25,239 winner along with about another 4 to be in the top 50/60 of one loft races they are worth the bother in the end if you dont have the room or time (work) then you will just have to let nature take its course tonys idea sounds the berries to me try it
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Geez Frank £25,239.. the milkybars are on you..!!!!!!!!
ron123 Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 yea will give tonys idea a go tomor if bird looks better i got him sent over from holland son of blue spirit really good blood in him thats why i even put him with one of the best hens. my friend calls him bad spirit lol
aye ready Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 what i do is when the offending cock goes into the wrong box let the fight commence then get a hold of one leg of the offender they will be to busy fighting to notice you've got a hold on the leg gently draw the fight to the edge of the box and draw the offender off the box onto the floor (gently) the offender will think he's been ousted and the cock who resides in the box will think he's won you might have to do it 2/3 times but normally they get the message.i think if a bird gets a battering like you said then same bird loses all confidence and is never the same.tony c's idea sounds ok too
