how long to lock to pigeons in a box together to pair them

Anything from a day to never, some take quickly others just might not take at all, have a brick or block so the hen can get out of the cocks way, some cocks can be lethal

We lock them in  when we pair up then watch the if the cock becomes to keen put a wooden block in so the hen can get away from him if that does'nt work put an old parting gate b'twn them till they settle down.

i like to pair them in show pen cages so they can pair through the wires then once paired i introduce them to a nest box things go a lot smoothly

I've a spare comparment where I will just leave 3 pairs in to let them mate up over three days. Then put back in own loft - Hens and Cocks are still seperated - then anoth three. Of course will be happy for them to pair them selves up. Also have a 4 x 5 x 5 foot avery where I will place a hen and cock bird in for three days. Hopfully when put together in nesting side they will stick to the mates like and settle better.

this is the best way if you dont have a spare sec lock the two of them out for a couple of hrs  each day for 3/4 days that should do it remember to lock that cocks box when hes out

if the birds have been separated for a while, then in good breeding condition, they often" take" right away,, if they dont, its well worth keeping an eye on the cock bird,  as he can and will roughen up the hen , often to a very bad degree, an upside down galley pot, or a half brick can save this, as the hen can hop on to this and get some protection, but i find there are certain birds take to other birds that they in fact" fancy" :),, mating birds can be quite difficult , especially with yearlings, i find it better to let each pair out their box [with the other boxes closed , also a pair at a time outside,,,,, by spending time  with them,  in  getting them used to their boxes, they will hopefully settle ,, good luck :)
