Richardferret Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 I have been racing now for 2 years and started with other peoples unwanted. I have had sum success over the two years i have had 6 x 1st 11 x 2nd and more lower down but have got nothing in fed at all. It is apparent I need to improve my stock birds. I no this is an emotive question but who would by what and from whom?
Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 depends what races you want to win sprint , middle or distance ?
jimmy_bulger Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 whos topping the fed with what in your area, then go to buy from same source
Richardferret Posted February 1, 2010 Author Report Posted February 1, 2010 racing is north road and 200 to 500 miles
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 Think you first need to work out which type of distance you are wanting to compete at...
pigeonpete Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 Welcome to the site Richard, After 2 years they are impressive figures, i bet i have had similiar in 4 years of racing. Dont lose the enjoyment of racing your birds, I would work with the birds you have, sound like you have got a good foundation, if you are winning in the club but not the fed, could be down to the wind factor/location, Dont be to quick to condemn the birds, as 8 out of ten its not the birds fault. :-)
OLDYELLOW Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 sounds like your birds are good enough , it maybe your location that isnt
Guest peter.j Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 sounds like your birds are good enough , it maybe your location that isnt or the management needs tweaking not by much but may need a few slight adjustments

Yes as you are now a mite wiser. However that may also put you back as you try to improve and inadvertantly change the reason you have done so well. So again little changes one at a time, and watch for the results. Sent a pm

Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 i wouldnt improve your stock birds just yet , what i would do is bring in 6 or 10 young birds to try against your own birds if these beat your birds then go back for more for stock

I no this is an emotive question but who would by what and from whom? dont you think it maybe that it could be you and not the birds?..club results can be misleading unless the quality of club members is above average. i always believed i would never get in the fed ,but it will come, dont be down hearted because you maybe behind the fed..wind direction plays a big part in fed honours. keep working hard and im sure it will come.
Tony C Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 You should always be looking to improve upon what you have, doesn't matter how far up the ladder you are.

tjloft Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 Sounds like those who donated their "unwanted" to you did you proud. It is too easy to undervalue those given to you by fellow fanciers. Only with hindsight and the expenditure of loads of cash do you come to realise this!!!!
pigeonscout Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 Is your loft location near the men topping the fed?
Guest bakes Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 some good results there mate what i would do if i was in that situation is go to the top flyer in your club and fed that is constantly in the top 2 of club fed go and try to buy direct from there birds that are putting in the performances that are winning week in week out try to get close to the tree as possible the old saying the apple never falls far from the tree try these ybs you buy in could be your location after all the wind makes up alot of races and the prepuration the birds have had but me would be happy with the results you have had in the first 2 season all the best for the coming oldbird young birds season all the best.
Guest IB Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Can I just echo what the others have said, your results on a difficult road are very good by anyones standard. 2 years says your pigeons are relatively new and young, so now you might want to turn your attention to what is producing those winners in your loft and try breeding more from them, maybe get a couple of lines going fit for crossing with each other? Not sure that it would be a good idea to bring others in just now, think there is a lot more available from what you have, as 3 yo onwards your birds are just coming into their prime. When you have an established winning line, that would be the time to bring pigeons in to try them, you'll then have something to compare performances against.
just ask me Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 look at results buy off a flyer in a bad location with a small team who's getting into the results
