Guvnor Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Hi all, Not to sure where to ask or what to do, but weve had quite a dopy pigeon in the back garden the last few days, and only today noticed it had a green tag on him. I'm not sure how to andle birds and to check the tag. The pigeon doens't look like a racing one, quite large. I'll try and get a photo and post the link. I'm based in buckinghamshire, hopefully I can track down the owner and return him.

Could be a show of fancy pigeon, they can get quite large, a pic would definately help, best to catch it when it'a is roosting
Guvnor Posted July 6, 2008 Author Report Posted July 6, 2008 Ok will try for a picture. It doesn't seem to go to roost, would putting out some sort of box help? Thanks
Peckedhen Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 When you say it doesn't go to roost...do you mean that it stays on the ground at night? If it does, wait till it's dark then go and pick it up and bring it in before a cat takes it. I'm trying to find a link that shows you how to trap a pigeon in a box....
Peckedhen Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Found it! Take a look at this link. I have had success with it but, you need to make sure that it works before you try it on the bird. If you miss the first time it will be wary and you might not get a second chance. http://www.racingbirds.com/ptrap.html
Guvnor Posted July 6, 2008 Author Report Posted July 6, 2008 Ok guys, I've been able to get a photo and a look at the ring, the tag says Braebur... 4101.
OLDYELLOW Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 it's a wood pigeon and what is that green tag on the side?
ALF Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Ok guys, I've been able to get a photo and a look at the ring, the tag says Braebur... 4101. it's a wood pigeon mate
Guvnor Posted July 6, 2008 Author Report Posted July 6, 2008 It dosesn't stay on the ground from what ive seen, will have a look at some sort of shelter, thanks all for help so far
OLDYELLOW Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 the bird has a green tag on its side has it anything on it ? and if you open the wing up it may have a stamp on but doubt as not a racing pigeon
Peckedhen Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 I've never seen a bird tagged like this! Maybe it has escaped from a sanctuary?
OLDYELLOW Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 probably an injured stoggie released by r.s.p.b , tag and released , so if re caught or found dead they would know the birds previous problems , just a guess. I know that some keep stoggies in avairys but cant see the reason for tagging
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 I know its not funny - but I can't stop laughing its got a sticker from a braeburn apple stuck to it (evil)
OLDYELLOW Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 perhaps as its a woodie, cook it good eating Bon apeitte
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 why would it be a wind up? the bird does not look well actually
OLDYELLOW Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 perhaps not cooking it till its well would be advisable , probably got caught in torential rain
jimmy white Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 report it to the rspca [theyll sort it out] could be from a sanctuary or a rung in the wild for investigation on teir behaviour and whereabouts,,, had a starling like that ,,rung but its definately a wood pigeon.
