History Man Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 We have found a racing pigeon in Sheffield (20968). He seems to be very tired, was by the side of the road so we have brought him in for some warmth. We have found these numbers on his rings but don't know what they mean. Please help. GB80Z20698 8147 20968 Many thanks
THE FIFER Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 could you check the ring number again, start from the GB
ribble Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Try having a look on the long wing feathers there maybe a telephone number.
History Man Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 GB is written laterally 80 is written horizontally and then Z20968
History Man Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 Hi Sorry having problems with this forum. Yes the number is gb08z 20968. thanks
Tony C Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Please report to RPRA. Tel: 01452 713529
History Man Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 We called the RPRA. Tel: 01452 713529 and they are close it is just a voice message?
OLDYELLOW Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 http://www.rpra.org/Default.aspx?tabid=100 report on line to r.p.r.a via there online form click link above
Tony C Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I can only presume the other number ( 8147 20968 ) is a phone number. Maybe a digit missing (0)8147 from the beginning of it. Anyone recognise this code?
PIGEON_MAN Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 We called the RPRA. Tel: 01452 713529 and they are close it is just a voice message? Unfortunatly 08.Z. rung pigeons have to be reported direct to the RPRA.The offices will be open from 9 a.m. tomorrow,or you could go onto the RPRA web site and report it on there.
retired Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Will the 8147 not be the stamped number in the rubber??
Leroy Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 whereabouts are you history man? are you a pigeon fancier?
History Man Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 We will report it and possibly take it to the vets to get it checked over. What is the difference for an 08Z pigeon?
REDCHEQHEN Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 What area of Sheffield are you? There are a few fanciers on the forum from Sheffield - also there are many clubs in Sheffield
History Man Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 We are in the Norfolk Park area. We don't keep pigeons, just helping this one out so I don't really know what a fancier is, or what is best practice with pigeons.

REDCHEQHEN Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I forgot about this site http://www.mnfc.org.uk/ringe.asp?a=e&y=2008&l=Z&n=20968&Search=Search Search Result 2008 Z 20968 - Please phone 01623 555544

All 08Z rings from 00001-99999 were issued to the Midland National Flying Club, who then issue them out to their members, but you still have to report them direct to the RPRA and not the MNFC,where as with most of the other lettered rings you can report them to the club secretary to which they were issued.

History Man Posted September 3, 2008 Author Report Posted September 3, 2008 Many thanks for that. Just contacting the owner now.

I'm hoping history man will give us some feed back - as I haven't used this site before - and whether it is the owner - the club - or Louella pigeon world (shrug)
