Cabruze Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 White pigeon with black "spots" all over. (Sorry - non-pigeon person here!) It has a ring but is a little nervous so haven't managed to read it yet. Please don't "shoot" me - but friends have told me that if a lost pigeon is returned to its owner it will be euthanised. I guess this isn't the case from a brief look at your forum?
wayne77 Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Really need to catch and confine bird. It may have contact number stamped on its flights. Thank you for taking time to report and good luck at catching it. As for your friends they are mis informed i'm sorry. Tell them to take look at this site and see the joy and passion we all have from pigeons. And the banter. And if thats not enough the sales in aid of good causes. I know of 3 at the moment, 2 already on go and one soon to be. Its a whole new world you have stunbled on here enjoy

Tiz true some do, but I like many more do our utmost for the welfare of our athletes of the sky.
Cabruze Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 I'll do my best to get the ring number. "Pie" has taken up residence in one of the farm feed rooms. Out during the day, then asks to be let in around dusk and takes around an hour to "get up" in the morning! I hoped he (or she!) would have a rest and then go home so haven't been feeding (plus there's plenty of food around the farm anyway). But I'm trying to befriend Pie with some grain and will post his ring number on here. Thanks!
Diydave Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 hi, just thought i would add that the best time to catch "pie" for the ring number is after the pigeon has roosted for the night, if it is safely accesible, and dark enough for the pigeon not to fly off, the ring will read something like :- GB 2008 (letter) and numbers, or SU, or whu, ihu, etcif its possible to get the registration number , then i am sure the owner will be traceable, although it sounds like "pies " quite happy there, dave
Diydave Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 forgot to say , if you catch it , clasp both thumbs around its wings with your hands / fingers around the body ,
PigeonTracker Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Good for you for taking the time to look for advice, many a good bird is still out there waiting to be reported. The advice of the members here shows how much we all care for the birds and let us all re-assure you that its not the case where the bird automatically gets put down just because it gets lost during a race, it happens with the best. When you do capture it, simply post the ring number here and someone will help you along with what else to do, lets hope the bird can get back home to its owners.
