DOVEScot Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Some were saying today that the show will be at Manchester next year as the Winter Gardens will be closed for refurbishment AGAIN, Blackpool will never be equaled in my opinion for a few reasons They will never get the cheap hotels or any hotels so close to any venue unless they go to the south coast of England resorts that are closed and only opened for the event but would they have the venue to host the show as well:-/
Guest bigda Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 used to hold it in butlins camp ;D
pjc Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 used to hold it in butlins camp ;D whats wrong with that! A complete self contained pigeon show / weekend drinking session and plenty of members for entertainment!
Guest ENDFLIGHT Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 blackpool taxi drivers have heard rumours that next years show is going to birmingham, the back of the tickets gave the dates for next years show, but no mention of the venue ?MY MONEY WOULD BE ON BLACKPOOL ALL THE WAY ;)

Guest mick bowler Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Would a Butlins be big enough? Would'nt be the same anywhere else, it would just become another "Old Comrades Show", and whats the point in having 2 national shows the same?

BLACK W F Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 ive been going for years maybe a few less stands and maybe the old place does need a few quid spending on it but the standard of the show is still no1!! the weekend is something special and its made better year after year with all the new and old friends i meet and thats something that wont ever go away...... yes Mick meeting friends new and old but the show is a lot smaller than it was and the prices are now a rip off but blackpool is what the show is the people
demolition man Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 couple of guy's i met never even went into the show just there for the auction sales.
DOVEScot Posted January 18, 2010 Author Report Posted January 18, 2010 The place needs refurbished and upgraded and the only time they can do it is closed season so that is how the show will lose out. Another sea side town would have to have the venue to host the show and willing to open their hotels for the w/e. It could not be too far south that it would make the Scottish fanciers lose out or on the east coast the Irish fanciers would lose out, that is why Blackpool is ideal and would be very hard to equal but needs must. The heat and smell in some of the halls was diabolical due to the lack of air conditioning. There is only so much they could do with it being a listed building, the Spanish hall would take months to refurbish to it's original beauty :-/
shweet Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 The Royal Racing Pigeon Associations website reckon they have got the Winter Gardens booked until 2018 for the show.
DOVEScot Posted January 18, 2010 Author Report Posted January 18, 2010 The Royal Racing Pigeon Associations website reckon they have got the Winter Gardens booked until 2018 for the show. Blackpool city council have a bid in for it to First Leisure so they might change it if they win. I think as long as the present owners are getting the money in they won't do anything to it unless forced to :-/ JMO
fred x Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 We are lucky to have the show there this year, The winter garden was in the blackpool locial paper last year, saying it in need of £2,000,000 spent on it to bring it up to health & safety standeds. & Blackpool Councel will NOT putting any money in to it. It cannot be knock down as it is a listed building. There was talk of letting it to a shopping arcade they will put the money in to refurbish the biulding. I think our Pigeon use of the Winter Garden as seen the end. :'( It will be a very sad day as I have been going since day one. (Lets hope I'm wrong)
Guest tom123 Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 whilst im agreeing that blackpool could not be matched has it caters for everything venue ,hotels for sales ,b&b¬ and night life i believe its inside the show that let the weekend down ,less stands should of given more space to move around everything seamed cramped in and with exits shut off this resulted in crowds heading in different directions causing jams
Taylorsloft Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 used to hold it in butlins camp ;D i remember it well cook you own food :X ;D wonder west bring it back
alex wight Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Its a shame Blackpool Council don't spend any money on their centre attraction, in the same way they have splashed out around it. They seem to have spent a fortune on, sculptures like the strange one at the front doors of a diver, new mono-block again at the front doors. Did you see the sculpture going from one end of the street to the other that does light shows and also plays music. Then theres the sea front, christ that must have cost a fortune, relaying the path, putting barriers up, sea defence, relaying the tram-lines ect. On top of that theres the new sewage plant, and as they put it "to be able to cope with the future". Maybe a petition is the way forward in conjunction with the local people, to push the council into helping out. jmo
