Nowhere, and I'm not the only one, because our Fed (Aberdeen)decides to have central marking at lunchtime on a Friday for a 240 mile race. It was easier getting your birds away 30 years ago and that was without the motorway network there is now.
Getting them to eat isn't a problem. Getting them to learn to go to the drinker is the hardest bit. I usually trickle the water in from about 18 inches so it makes a splashing noise, it attracts their attention and usually no problems after that. Once 1 or 2 start drinking the others soon follow. Hope this helps.
"When you take any predator out of the ecosystem you create a huge imbalance in that ecosystem."
So the converse must be true. Pity the RSPB didn't think that one through, before releasing thousands of raptors. Or is yet another case of one law for them and stuff the rest of you and your ecosystem.
Watch out, you are also washing its own natural oils out of its feathers, so the bird looses its resistance to rain/bath for a couple of weeks. Should be fine if it hasn't swallowed any of it.
Well, why don't you display the ring numbers of the pigeons you supposedly returned to their rightful ownwers. It would help if you were able to give the owners names which you would have through reporting these pigeons. I doubt very much if these birds were local.
OK many thanks for that, had been watching satellite etc, Sorry about reposting my previous one. If someone wants to remove it please do.
Whole team away...had to go. Oh well bring on the YBs
Hi,
Had your 06 birds been in a basket before? The fact the strays came back (had probably been in a basket to become strays) may help, and they may be more street wise if there was a hawk attack. Hope they make it back anyway.
No doubt there's a queue waiting to take on the job!!!! Its a shame it usually ends this way, and those supplying the ammo are usually least likely to take on the role.
I bought a hand held Dazer at Blackpool, used it twice, certainly makes the cats scarper, and haven't seen them back. Not sure what the range is , but it worked at about 10 metres. I was a bit sceptical at first.
No, my intention would not be to kill them. I was under the impression if they took pigeons from that area, they would taste bad and would leave that flock of pigeons alone. Thought I read some of the Welsh lads had had some success with this. Also thought it had no effect on the doos.Haven't seen the BHW article.
Thanks for the quick replies.
It looks like I have a pair of pergrines moved into my area. Often see a single one passing through at this time of year, but there is at least one been chasing the birds for about 2-3 weeks, (finally got one at the weekend) I have seen on here some insecticide you put on your birds neck/shoulders supposedly makes them taste bad. Can you tell me the name of this stuff and how easy it is to get?
Does it actually work?
I dread to think what might happen to my yb team (all 12) if these things are setting up home.
Thanks
BBC Scotland are showing something else. If you look on satellite it just shows as "Regional", is there a specific region it will be shown in, or is it the same programme in every region?
Don't know if anyone has already posted this. Just got it off of Sky News. Seems a lot has been hushed up...... Theres a surprise
