  1. From the news story: "A public right of way through a woodland in Cornwall recently had to be closed when an eagle owl began attacking dogs being walked in the area." I always thought they were moorland/open area birds. A bird that size wouldn't be manouverable enough to hunt in woodland. I've watched buzzards in woodland, they would be pushed to catch a cold. Please correct me if I am wrong.
  2. Footpath closed...no prying eyes. Bird disappears...footpath reopens. Who is watching the RSPB. I wonder how many people have actually come forward complaining their dogs were attacked. Seem to recall an eagle owl getting shot last year once it was inferred it was not a "native".
  3. At least you will be getting your pigeons back to try another year. If you have any doubts read the SNFC Tours thread.
  4. Well said Phil/Paulo. In the last 2 weks I have had 10 yb's in. 2 had full crops, looked like the start of YB sickness. One was still carrying the scars of a previous excursion. One was still squeaking (hadn't thrown a flight). On Friday someone tossed their birds at Stonehaven. The hills were covered in low cloud, and it was drizzling. Disasters are usually unexpected.
  5. Well done Bob. Great pigeon.
  6. Congratulations Irvine.
  7. Cheers Jimmy, they certainly looked like they've been through rain, wattles all red and feathers have a definate damp feel to them, though the sun has been trying to break through.
  8. Two pigeons 11:20 and 11:39. Bit like the busses wait for hours.
  9. Congratulations.
  10. Stonehaven , overcast with NE wind.
  11. Just got to look at radar pics to see what they hit. Congratulations to everyone who got a bird Tours/Ypres.

Whats wrong with the STB? Didnt think there would be that big a difference timing into STB or T3, you've still got to get the pigeon home.
  14. Stonehaven, Kincardineshire (NOT Aberdeenshire)
  15. Welcome aboard, amongst the rantings of a few (well quite a lot actually) there are some real pearls of wisdom. Seriously there is a real wealth of knowledge on this site, and if you need help or advice just ask.
  16. Well now you have confirmed why Scottish pigeons do not carry phone numbers on wings or rings.
  17. If you are taking them at the same time you would normally exercise them, then at 500 yds they probably think its their normal exercise time. 500 yards is nothing to a fit yb, they should be ranging much further than that. You also dont want them coming out of a basket then not getting their usual feed. Try them with some conditioner/red band on their return, they'll soon get the message.
  18. Congratulations to Gordon, an absolutely outstanding performance.
  19. Congratultions to you, and all who did get birds today.
  20. Well done Alf. Does this mean the "Sprint Specialist" might be getting changed?
  21. Got a bird 13:05 Stonehaven. 597 miles. Cracking pigeon that 1 in Peterhead.
  22. Cracking morning in Stonehaven. SW wind.
  23. Stonehaven, skies clearing fast. Wind picking up but still from the west.
  24. Stonehaven has about 80% high cloud cover and light westerly breeze. Bright and no problems.
  25. Here we are on the eve of the "big one", and whats the story. Sadly not the pigeons. I thought this matter was in the hands of the police a year ago. Have I missed something?
