  4. Thanks from us all
  5. Another is UPS, this is the only country that they don't provide a pigeon service, as you say not enough in it to squable over, so lets hope the back up plan works :-/
  6. What about the biggest pile "horse sh**" ;D ;D ;D
  7. let them hatch, they have the best of feeding to cope with both raising and moulting
  8. We don't let the loft birds breed through the moult but our cote birds breed all year round and the raise good ybs through their moult, but as I have said they don't moult near as much as the loft birds for some reason, even though our lofts are well aired :-/
  9. Still waiting :( :(
  10. Welcome to the site A lot of show fanciers are keeping their stock just now to see how the turn out for the show pens, I can ask up in this area but you will have to collect or arrange pick up, I gave all mine away last year but I still now a few guys that show them Some of the ones I had
  11. Good site Sapper http://www.xcweather.co.uk/
  12. You can put two hens in with one cock no problem, I have done this and all three raised the four young together
  13. I have some young birds that slight marks on the tips of their feathers which moulted out and turned out all white in the end :-/ Also a pure white indian fantail that developed one grey feather once it went through the moult :-/
  14. I agree, There is a myth that pigeons pair for life, not always true, I have ones that pair together but I have a cock that will tread anything that stands still long enough leaving the other cock to bring up his seed, hence the old addage pecking order and cock of the loft, this ensures the strong genes survive in the wild, fanciers on the other hand have a way of beating nature by selective breeding :-/
  15. I thing they are cosmetically simillar nothing to do with genetics or pure bredding, as long as they fit the breed standard they are accepted, hence all countries have different standards, the funny one for me is the AMERICAN STAFFORD BULL TERRIER, what is it American or English but needless to say it is a lot bigger, just like everything American :) We have the same in pigeons Show Racers and American Show Racers :-/ :-/ :-/
  16. Nice to hear from you Mike, I hope the birds I got for you are doing well Were the 750 birds all yours ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  17. Is it for sale on other sites as well or just this one :-/
  18. He has a joiner freind who made it for him, I thing it hold 20 birds, it looks the part but I think it needs a few improvements, especially the vents
  19. Yes they are doing fine, won't get the best out of them till I get them out the loft and into the kit box, Here is a box my mate Davie from Dumfermline got made for him, it has a mesh floor but I think it can do with more vents Luckily we don't have a problem with the sparrow hawks, four hits in the last four years, we have plenty of buzzards and I think the keep them at bay fighting for territory
  20. No, Gay is acceptable so is jolly ;D ;D ;D
  21. Good luck to them, the only ones that can compete without holding lofts is a national courier service that are willing to transport pigeons, the minute they franchise the outlying areas the same problems will occur that do with Amtrak. Lets hope they are in it for the long run, I think if Amtrak is challenged enough they will have two options 1. Improve their service, which will be good for everyone 2. Stop the service, only good if there is a back up that can cover the whole country :-/
  22. I know a well known breeder of exhibition fantails 'J McCallum" who introduces hew colours into his stock, he says that as long as they fit the standards laid down then it is an exhibition fantail The same can be said for any breeding, how can it be a pure bred boxer if it has corgi in it's genetics, or is it that there is not such a thing as a pure bred just a breed standard set by us humans
  23. Our cote pigeons rear all year round although they do slow down and the mortality is reduced due to the natural elements, but the ones that do survive are really healthy and strong, our loft pigeons on the other hand will be seperated or their eggs replaced with false ones :-/
  24. Aye but natural moult is different from induced moult, even wild pigeons go through the moult although I don,t see it as bad in them as I do in captive pigeons, maybe they do it at this time of the year so they can produce new feathers to see them through the winter. Why do they produce and sell moulting mixtures if it is not diet related :-/
  25. I think natural moult obviously takes a lot of out the birds as they have to reproduce these feathers so best done when food is plentiful and the weather SHOULD be warmer, yes the changing weather will effect this and maybe natures way of adapting, the same as falsly keeping them in the darkness system :-/
