Hi Carl, I am entering two birds from my loft, but they will be representing two syndicates from work.It cost £100 per bird to enter and we have 10 people @ £10 each for each bird.A cheap way to have some fun, make non flyers aware of how much fun our sport can be,while also educating them about the racing pigeon being so different from the ferals, and also giving them a chance to win some dough.

There are a couple of guys in my area that are friendly with Andre Van de weil, they have birds from his top lines. They are both good fliers and when asked about their winning birds they don't normally mention the Boscheind pigeons, but that doesn't mean they are telling the truth.I don't think the Boscheind flyers are a bad source to purchase from, as they don't send a very large team but have excellent results.Best of luck with them.

Craig, Have you not read my watering system on another post.If you have and you think it will not work or be beneficial, believe me you will not build a better immune system within the bird than what i have formulated. I have used my knowledge on nutrition, with working with competitive bodybuilders,20 years of studying nutrition. If you have not seen my post then i apologise for my ramblings. The information you have written above is spot on and beneficial, hopefully fanciers can benefit from what we have divulged and refrain from having to give excessive use of anti-biotics.Some of the stuff you have posted lately has been invaluable for pigeon racing, such as the article on carbohydrates.People really should take note of this important material.Keep posting this valuable information.Well done Craig.

Bluey is right.I fly in a partnership and lived outside the radius, all you have to do is to get the existing member to resign and then rejoin in the partnership name.In your case if you are applying to join a club, then just join in your racing partnership name with your address as the loft location.Should be no problem.Best of luck.Word of warning though, partnerships don't always run smoothly.

I have to agree with Redcheqhen.I have been using Protexin probiotic for the last year and found it an excellent product, but my supplier has discontinued this product and is stocking Entro-plus instead, which after using for 6/7 weeks i find is not as good.I will find another supplier who stocks the Protexin probiotic and revert back to it.

Preventitive treatments for racing pigeons
schyphos replied to Keepsmilingqueen's topic in Products & Medication
Hi Sharron, I use a preventitive watering program, designed to have the pigeons immunity system at its optimum level. The following is my program,i hope you find it useful. Saturday -on return from racing- Electrolytes & honey in water. Sunday- am-Avisan or any water sanitizing product in water.Pm-Probiotic in water. Monday -Probiotic in water. Tuesday-Alternate weekly between Garlic or Johnsons tonic. Wednesday-Cider vinegar in water. Thursday-Cider vinegar in water. Friday- Plain water nothing added. This will keep your birds internally healthy.I do also vaccinate against PMV & Pox. And i do have the droppings tested regularly for Bacterial infections,Worms,Cocci & Canker. And only treat if instructed by vet.Except for a few treatments against Canker,i have never had to treat for anything else. -
Loft stock and barrel, and The flying vets pigeon health and management. Both excellent books.

Too old now,but if it were a few years ago i would buy Harm Veldeveld's Boy and Queen.

In all fairness after what Roundo wrote i must say that last week i sent a cheque to Andrew for a pigeon and it arrived today with no hassle, very pleased with the bird and with Andrew on his communication and efficiency in getting the bird to me.Very smooth transaction.I feel that this did get a little out of hand and i for one have no problem at all with dealing with Andrew or Sean. Good luck with the bird Sean (when it arrives) and thanks Andrew on a super bird.

Hi mate, Did you build that loft yourself or is it from a company,if so which one?

Looks so much like his sister. Looks as though he handles like her too.The winning bidder wont go far wrong with this one. Once again, thank you Stuart.

I agree with you Bruno. It is very unlikely that there is one single cause. Personally,And this is only my view. I believe these loses are caused by some of the following reasons: Initially, fanciers breeding inferior race birds. From mediocre stock. Poor young bird management.I.e. inadequate feeding, watering and training systems. No motivation for the birds to race. Birds sent racing not fully fit. Birds sent racing not 100% healthy. There are also reasons not immediately related to the fancier, such as: Dehydration during transit. Injury picked up between basketing and home. Hawk attacks, guns,Pylons,Cables etc. Regarding overcrowding i personally don't think that is a major problem,as many of the Belgiums and Dutch fanciers have lots of y.b's in small sections with not a lot of ventilation. But ,and this is the important thing,The fanciers have a very special bond with the birds and all the birds are happy to be there. There are probably more but i have highlighted a fair few. Guess i am "very lucky".Suffered very few young bird losses. This year flew them all through the card.Started with 24 lost one on the first race and finished the season with 23. Remember this is just a personal view and i could be "way off the mark." Jim Newton

Really feel for you Sean.Amazes me that some people could stoop that low.I echo everyone else's sentiments and hope the *expletive removed* get caught. Keep your head up though mate, you know the people on this website would always help you out if need be. Jim

Very difficult one this,as it really just comes down to personal opinion. There are just so many.Personally i would probably choose,in no particular order. Janssens Van reets Vandenabeeles marcelis Soontjens Van Loons Hartogs Cooremans J Thone (sprint line) Van der Merwe As i stated, just a personal choice,i'm sure i have left out some fantastic sprint strains. Interesting to know what other people choose. Jim

Y.b cocks on widowhood.(old hens used). Y.b hens seperated, run with some old cocks on Friday.Paired last 5 races. Some old birds on roundabout with jealousy used. 1 team of old bird widowhood cocks. I think that covers it.
