Like most I suspect since the end of the racing season I have bought in birds from many sources and as a precaution I will treat all with Parastop followed by E-Plus(Probiotic).
Had great service from UK Pigeon Couriers - picked up birds in Dundee delivered to Wilts - rang us both before collection/delivery. Roland Janssens from Smiler both cracking birds.
Greetings - can I bid £40 for lot 4.
I notice that these are very close to tree and similar at LPW are on offer for £500+. Are these a new introduction or have you had the opportunity to race any? If so how did you get on?
Is Smiler AKA Jim Kerr who appears on Rolands home site?
Regards TJ
I had similar prob - my loft backs onto fence - cats were jumping from fence onto top of stall traps - I lined stall trap and fence with carpet grippers - prob solved -although one thick/gymnastic cat did wake me at 3am.
I was at LPW a few weeks ago and they had penned 6 RJs with pedigrees for sale at £360. They handle them every day but when asked the sexes of them they changed their minds every time they transferred them over for someone else to handle!!!!!!
I know someone who bought 3 pairs which turned out to be five hens!! I have one in the loft which I have had several months and the jury is out, sex of another one was only resolved when it laid an egg. Difficult to sex young RJs.
I believe that your ability to win is based upon the effort you are prepared to put in and not continually chopping between systems. Many times people pay a lot of money to purchase birds which have done well for someone who has fine tuned his racing methods and in reality could ring a feral youngster and get it to win. One mistake I believe is to go for numbers without having the space - some of the best lofts(with results) I have visited have few birds. A bit of ruthlessness does not go amiss - a mate of mine outed 20 pigeons this afternoon whilst vaccinating and two of them won feds as YB/yearlings but done nothing for the last two years.
I agree they are a business and dont begrudge them gaining from the the cash, work and effort they have put into the business - but JMO it is the guy like myself who has other calls on his cash who benefits from their supermarket approach to selling birds.
When sales lists appear on their site its not long before "SOLD" appears - someone near you likes the birds!!!!! There is a wee bit of snobbery in our sport and JMO I believe they dont always get the credit they deserve. I believe no matter the size of stud the % of good birds remains the same.
I think LPW puts "fashionable" strains within the reach of most fanciers, you can currently get Lindelauf, van Lint & vd Rhee 6 for £150 - how much would other studs ask for these?
I think the trick is to apply it before racing, breeding or moulting seasons - having seens its effect on cats - it probably pays to leave them in loft for a couple of days once applied.
