    Loft Time

ive never kept low profile, when u spend alot of time in the loft and there tame/fairly tame, they should rest while your in the loft and take no real notice of you,and consider you as one of the team.

    Loft Time

Now that winter is drawing in and the nights are getting dark on average how long do you spend in each loft.and how much attention would u like to give each loft.On average i know the cold hasnt really kicked in i spend at least 2-3 hours out in the lofts. For the two sections of the widowhoods, this season is the time i like to create more of a personal bond with cocks, cos its much harder to get a bond with hens then it is cocks i feel,as hens will literally pair up to you i find once rank while cocks wont.so in each widowhood section i spend at least 45 mins in each section.they are fairly tame from young birds, but when there transfered into the widowhood section i try to get them that one step tamer.Cos for me pigeons eating out of my hand aint enough.Last yr i had 14 cocks n when i used to say 'come on then boys' some would land on me,and have fights on my shoulders heads u name it,and others would spin round cooing waiting for me to give them a fight with me hand. This is how i like my widowhood cocks to be so in the winter i work on it.I spend alot of time just sitting in there making sure there used to me around the loft and they can rest while im in there, they young cocks aint used to me saying 'come on boys',cos as young birds i never put my hand to fight with them in there boxes, but they'll soon get to grips. With the stock hens and racing hens shed i spend at least half hour,as i just potter about in there cleaning out ect,and just sitting there watching how they hens that are prospect for racing, react inside the loft, and get to know there characteristics. Finally in the stock cock section probably i spend a maxium 10-15 mins cleaning out ect, handling and looking at the pigeons,i dunno i think stock cocks are brillant looking pigeons specially the retired racing ones that uve had with you for the past 6-5 years,
  8. Saying that theres always exceptions to the rule, this maybe in my loft doesnt work all the time id say a ration 6/10 percent of the time, cos the last breeding season i thought right i got a lot of cocks here cos there all standing up puffing out and tryna peck me,how wrong was I,I ended up with more hens then cocks, and some that i thought in the nest coooooooor turning out to be cracking little cocks lol ended up as cracking little hens

well for a 13 yr old, sounds like he had a little buisness prospect going on,i wish i was that smart, and used age to get a bit of income rolling in
  17. Race him mate,ya can still try 2 young uns out of him next year, even by racing him,if you dont rate him as a breeder what harm will it do by putting him on the road, agree with the above posts just race him inland the coming season once well trained and see how he goes on the channel the following
  18. some dont do nothing and some do,some great pigeons have come of of the £99 for 6 just look at Champion Magic Blue, the thing is its funny when you buy them you dont get a pedigree but they soon can knock one up once they bought it back.Thats the question always been on my mind. But ya cant take it away from them, they do offer quality pigeons for working mans prices
  19. i had a cock bought him in the clearence sale of dennis nunn couple years back was in stock shed for 2 yrs bred crap,i bought him as a yearling neva flew out from my loft, broke him out and i got him back from lerwick this year anything is possible with pigeons just whether you want to take the chance

    Auction Lot No 41

good luck is there any updates
  24. well the close season started yesterday here, all the lofts cleaned out top and bottom not missing a spot, suprising how many feathers you miss when you go in all the nocks and crannies, seperated the sexes, introduced young cocks to there new loft, and they have all settled well,so all that is left is to get the moult out of all of this years babies and possibly buy in a new hen or two for the stock loft,
