birdman55678 replied to Jim McArthur's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
How ya doin Tim. The package is almost ready to send to ya. Jim I have known people who just nail up orange crates to the side of the barn and put a pair in each one with one hole in it. Ed :-/ :-/ : : -
Forgot to add with the hens its easy to figure. When they quit laying then they are done.. Ed

I believe the average age is around 10 for the cock birds, after than its hit and miss.

Caring for injured pigeon
birdman55678 replied to Jim McArthur's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
I would really suggest the racers Jim. For one real good reason IF you ever do decide to race then you would at least have stock to start with, if you invest your time and cash into rollers then all you will ever have is rollers. But think about this one, if you just want some pigeons to have pigeons then just go catch some commons out from under some ole bridge or an old barn or deserted building. Raise em and then just enjoy them. I would seriously think about getting racers though, just my thoughts. Later. Ed -
Nice lot of birds there my friends. Ed

Hi Linda. Some good thoughts there. I am using wood pellets to hopefully combat some of the dampness. I also have air-vents in the floor that can be removed and then the pellets and mess put down and taken out from the bottom. (this keeps me from having to pack it out. LOL) Had not thought about a fan, I will look into it at home depot. Thanks a bunch gal. Ed

I thought the voting/judging was suppose to have started already. Maybe there were not enough birds entered to make a competition. Or wait a minute I bet I know what it was, they looked at the picture that I sent in and knew they better just close off the entrys as mine was unbeatable... LOL.. 8) ;D ;)

I agree with you Linda, although I do keep a bottle and syringe handy I have never used it. In fact its undoubtedly out of date by now. Ed

I know Linda. But honestly I really never do intend on flying any of them, wish I could find a good home for the ones I have, the pond has been beckoning to me, so who knows for sure.. ;D ;D

Linda the one I bought got broken but luckily I made a copy for a friend of mine and I got it back today, I will run you off an extra copy for viewing. Later gal. Ed

Good grief Linda sorry to hear about your sleepwalking and sleep computering. Put your car keys in the safe and change the combonation. Sleep driving would be the pitts.... huggers... Ed ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well bred janssen 06 Youngbird/latebred
birdman55678 replied to Keepsmilingqueen's topic in Swap Shop
I will swap you out of her, what do you want for her in return? You will need to deliver her to my loft though.....Ed ;D ;D ;D -
More importantly did you get to visit any loft and did ya bring home any lost birds... Ed ;D ;D ;D

Here is a breeder loft I just put up. No paint on it yet but that will come. Its only a 8 by 16 in two sections. 8 pair on each side side and when seperated then cocks on one side and hens on the other. You will notice no windows. On the second picture you can see where the top 24 inches either opens up or folds down. Not sure how this will work but with as much rain as we get here I figured I would try it. The roof is clear poly and the light comes through very well. What do you think? Any idea for improvements. I am hoping I get lots of feedback with some good ideas. Thanks. Ed

Linda. There is absolutely no way that a Patriot will ever fly or be shown by me in any kind of show or race. Once you have been kicked in the NARDS you never forget.. LOL. Later gal. Ed

only thing is this system will take alot of time to do it mate,as ull need to pair the cock to each hen seperatly and wait for her to lay before transfereing Wiley you are right. I have used this system with 5 hens and you show the hens to the cock each day and he will tread the hen, then just open up to another hen and he will also tread that one. I have a special pen built, 6 foot long five feet wide and 18 inches tall. The 6 by 5 is split in to two sections and one sections is has 5 portals for the hens. All the hens partitions have a wired and solid slider. For two day I leave just the screen in and the cock will pair up with each hen in turn but be unable to couple with them. It is important for the hens not to be able to see each other. When releasing hens with cock bird be sure the solid plywood is in front of the hens section to close them in. I am not great with words but hope this helps.. Almost forgot. All the hens will have eggs within 10 days and all you have to do is foster the eggs out and then start all over again. I put twice as many pumper pair together at the same time to insure having enough to foster the eggs. Ed

Blackjack this is a great thread and I am glad you brought it up. Nowadays people think they have a sick bird and they start treating for everything and keep going until the bird dies or is better. My policy has been to never treat anything unless I know what I am treating for. I have used Apple cider vinegar for years and very seldom have any sick birds. Ed

How do you know not to eat the yellow snow. Have you tried it.. LOL. Ed

I tried them, all my success was bad. Ms Pigeon flys them though and does well with them. Ed
