  1. I checked the 3 mile one but that was only because it was the shortest. My first release is from my driveway where they can see the loft. Of course this is only with ybs..
  2. Only as many as you can properly care for. This is usually about 50% or what all flyers have.... Not meant to cause a ripple among us......... LOL.
  3. almost forgot.. also well trained..
  4. Healthy birds has to be #1...
  5. I don't miss it cause ob season will soon be up on us. Its time to sort and pair up the breeders by december 1st.. luck. Ed
  6. With most late breds they do not have time to get in a whole body molt and without that molt they are doomed. IF you do raise late bred birds do not forget to at least train them out to a minimum of 30 miles or so and then its probably not good to race them the first ob season.. Just my experience anyway. Ed
  7. I will raise more than normal this year as it will be my first breeding season since I move here. I have to get my old bird team built up.
  8. My dad brought me home 6 rollers when I have 8 years old, I have kept pigeons for the last 49 years with a short 3 year hitch in the military when I couldn't. I really do not understand why my father brought me the birds and then kept them for me when I was in the Army. He never had or kept pigeons before or after. Go figure huh.. Regards. Ed
  9. I fly my birds year round. They do not have free loft entry, but I loft fly them when the weather permits.
  10. Electronic Timing is the only way to go. If you have a busy schedule its invaluable. Just my thoughts. Ed
  11. Lots of tosses and don't stop until the season has started..
  12. I believe it just to much work for the younger generation. They would much rather visit with friend, watch TV, Play video games or go to the malls shopping. Also the sport nowadays is very expensive which is prohibitive to many, young and old alike. About every box listed above could be checked. Good Day.
  13. Once per week for me, I use wood pellets on the floor and they get raked once per week, the perches get it everyday if needed. My scraper sits in a box just inside the loft...
  14. Only color not to pair is whats called here an almond, the young birds can be hatched blind. When pairing it isn't the color of the feathers that really matter its the color of the eyes.. Good day. Ed
  15. wiley y did say dont put your pigeons in 1 basket If you put all your birds in one basket if anything goes wrong then its likely all those birds are lost...........LOL... Anyway that what the message relayed to me.... Later.
  16. Here is a trick that works everytime and never fails. Beware though as it usually only works once a season. Remove all the birds from the loft before basketing. Leave the cock bird you are going to race in his nest box. Insert his hen for about 5 minutes. At that time remove the cock and lock the hen in the nest compartment. Just befoe you basket the cock insert another cock into the nest box with the hen. Be sure the hens mate can see the new cock. Immediately basket the cock and wait for your winner to come home. Again only once per season.. Good luck.
  17. how much american money. I don't understand the L75.
  18. There are lots of different ideas here and its a very interesting thread. The way I do it is I also train twice a day starting at 2 miles and then jumping approximately 5 miles at a time out to 30 miles. Once to 30 miles they just go once a day everyother day. This continues until the birds are coming home in good time. I feed my birds in the late afternoon and never feed the morning of a training toss. Vitimins in the water is a must for me, three times a week. Ed
  19. Quoted from westy what corn do you give your racers over the winter period. i have myne on high protien mix No Corn here.. Barley, with a little red wheat and salflower
  20. Good malt barley is a good excellent winter feed, although I would never feed it straight, 60 to 70% max for me with the extra 30% being a mixture of red wheat and salflower.. But if it works for you then no need to change anything.. Ed
  21. Yes what are the results. My daughter is driving me crazy all she seems to want to do is check out this site and see how she is doing.. I love that kind of interest.. Later. Ed
  22. Is Melton Mowbray the last race or is there more. I have not yet found a page with all the races listed on it. I see Pegasus Lofts is still in the lead. Thank you. Andie
