  1. Couple of beauties eh? First group of yb`s
  2. I flew my rollers in comp yesterday. I had em right and the stinking wind got up and ruined a really good shot at the finals. 17 mph gusting to 25. They still hit 9 turns and flew the time. I hate it because they were so on point. Point of this rant is I almost fed then extra the day before, I knew they were right but I thought I could make em just a little better. In the end I used my better judgement amd left them alone. kh
  3. Silver, Wrap your brain around this one. Before crossing any strains, consider WHY you are crossing. Is there something lacking in your birds? This should be done with a certain amount of caution. Remember you get good and bad traits when you introduce an unknown quantity into your loft. The only reason I could think of is building a better bird, or a lack of specific traits in the strain you`re breeding now. If it ain`t broke dont fix it. jmho
  4. M8`s I`ve been using a pencil for years. Never poked a single egg. It is best to use a slightly dull one. I write date and pair number on it. What else do you need? I have shut down more than one fancier who has questioned the validity of my pairings vs chicks. Can`t get any more foolproof. yits ps another benefit. When you pick the shells up from the floor it saves time searching for the new hatch. The numbers are on the shell. I just gotta have a peek at the wee one.
  5. Me too I have one in the nest box now at almost two weeks. Bred one on the first round too. They are telling me it is a het griz. I think it is a double dose of the pied factor.

  7. I had a thought the other day. One of those what if thoughts. Ceramic Tile. Most of us have probably less than 30 sq feet to tile. Easy clean and scrape. Don`t need anything expensive or even matching for that matter. Probably can get it free if you aks the right guy. Anyway tile and epoxy grout seems to be the way to go.

If your woried about disease, feed and medicate them. I like the idea of them being your Dad`s old birds. A legacy of sorts, eh? Ever thought of training a few just to see what they have? Would be a fun way to honor your Dad. yits
  9. I have two I am keeping and 5-6 going away. None in the breeder loft so that is probably the end of griz in my program.
  10. Hey Bro. I C U. lol
  11. In some performing breeds activity proir to laying can lead to a prolapsed uterus and usually the culling of a hen. I have rollers and with their performance they are really likely to sling the egg during a roll. I personally would not run a bird during a breeding cycle.
  12. First off you have to get your breeders physically prepared. Lots of rich food, worm and vaccinate before you even pair for the season. Use a 4n1 after the first set of eggs is laid and before they hatch. This will give breeders a chance to get it metabolised before the eggs hatch. I use wild bird seed when the chicks start coming. It contains smaller seeds the chicks can digest.I also use pellets in the mix to make sure they get all of the vites and minerals they need.
  13. I had an illness earlier this season after entering a few birds in a show. I used antibiotics to no avail in the beginning. After I lost a few birds and did more research, I found there was more to it than simply dropping a couple of teaspoons of powder in the water. I scrubbed the loft daily removing the infected feces, changed to a small seed, low protien feed regimine, and used probios daily in the feed and water. I spoke with another fancier who lost 30 birds. I consider myself lucky to have lost only 8. One has to be sure that the illness can be treated with antibiotics. I seldom use antibiotics. v99

  16. Check out the directors and members on the World Cup and NBRC websites. They should give you a place to start. Welcome bro.
  17. Hey Chatrace, Thats pretty funny man. If you bang a drum in comp you get the big DQ. Now we just let em roll. If you get lucky the neighbors car will backfire or his kid will slam the lid on the dumpster. Musta been from the old days. If you have any questions about roller competetion go to http://www.nbrconline.com v99
  18. I saw this one a long time ago. He dyes them with food coloring. Probably puts it in the bathwater. Thats the only way I could think of to get them that saturated. Tried it after I saw the pic the first time. Pretty difficult to get them coated that well. yits v99
  19. Hey Gangster. That must be a blast watching those birds hover for 21 hours at 1200 feet. Got time to get drunk AND recover from the hangover. lol v99
  20. Birmingham is appx 10-12 oz bird. Round head, smooth aerodynamically shaped bird. about 8-8 1/2 inches base of neck to tip of tail,12 tail feathers. Tail should flex up to 90 degree angle or better when you rock the bird in your hand. Coloration runs from blue bars to almond and opal. The best way to know if you have birminghams is to fly them and watch the performance. Just takes exerience mate. yits v99
  21. mates the best is the birmingham roller.
  22. I use ivomectin as well. One capful in their bath water once a month. Never a problem.
  23. I agree Roland. Ventilation is a key element in the health of your birds. Mine is just this side of being drafty. 2`x2` wire covered hole in floor and soffet vents in the top bring a nice circulation. When the floor gets a little damp it doesn`t stay like that long. Only trouble I have is when it stays cold and the droppings freeze. Disgusting mess they make. v99

    Gun Crime

Had a kid across the alley with a pellet gun popped a couple of rounds off at my birds in the loft. I went over and jumped on him with both feet. Told him if ANY of my birds ever got shot I was coming to him first and I was gonna plant a size 13 boot right in his......well you know . If any of his little buddies have pellets guns and want do some shooting I was coming to him first. So be warned. Not a peep since and that was a year ago. When it comes to my birds safety and health I am NOT a nice man. yits v99
