    Grit

I feed oysytershell in breeding season, The seed mix I use has granite grit included. I never feed just grit in a bowl. No need.
  2. I inject my birds on the back at the base of the neck a little to one side. The is little muscle kinda where the wing meets the back makes a nice injection site. Easy to hold the bird and inject him at the same time. jmho
  3. Here are a few griz

How about the chip implants like they do for dogs and cats? I don`t know about cost but they could work much the same way I would think. Just a thought.
  5. I like the 30 sec loft that is a sweet setup
  6. You don`t have to be from the UK either. I am from Texas
  7. When you use a pre potent pair it does greatly increase your odds of having good birds. It is sometimes possible to tell by certain markings which birds have the greatest potential. All they are is potential in the nest. MTPW
  8. The fore mentioned matings are good as well as grandaughter on the cock. The best matings come from the female progeny onto the stud cock. Make sure you breed based on performance for performace breeds. Breeding for color in a performance bird is a sure way to crash your program. JMHO
  9. Usually depends on the pair. Most go at 16-20 days when the squabs are starting to pin pretty well. This is a critical time for the squabs not to get too cold.

Mad Max, My point exactly. Why wait? My rollers fly for an hour to an hour and a half every other day. I have two kits so I fly usually everyday. The distance I travel is approximately 20 feet . Have a seat and a pint watch them do thier stuff. Feed em up when they land, play with my other birds, go have a bite of supper and some telly. Too sweet of a setup. I like it simple. yits

Guys, If you`re tired of homers, switch over to rollers. A lot less complicated and the judge comes to your house. Just my two pence worth.
  12. Icy and cold in Amarillo Tx. S`posed to get 4-6 inches of snow today. Rained most of the day yesterday.Wind is blowing 20 mph.
  13. Sammy, The rule of thumb is one tablespoon per bird of approximately 10-12 percent seed/feed. One cup per ten birds. This will get them to fly for roughly 1 hour depending on your birds and conditions. If you have young ones, fly them every day til they start rolling then cut them back to every other day. This will improve their performance. I have 2 kits so can I fly one everyday conditions permitting.
  14. Nice to hear Jim. Good luck on the move. Next thing you know you`ll be a pigeon fancier. Well a bigger fancier. If you ever get around Amarillo, holler at me. Looking forward to hearing from you.
  15. I would like a pair of proven breeders from the loft of Heine Bijker, two time World Cup champion. Probably not available at any cost. mtc
  16. Jim , I am in Amarillo Tx. An easy ship for the birds. Take 24-36 hours. The Big Easy. I was been there a time or two when I lived in Vicksbursg Ms. Click on my link and I have a contact link on the main page of my site. We can stay in touch til I get ready to send them and you get ready to have them. Check out my small operation. You can get an idea as to properties you will need to keep pigeons. They really are great birds. easy to keep . I am just a freak for my birds. LOL yits
  17. Jim, Where are you at? If you`re in the States I can help you out in a few weeks when I pair up. I have some mostly white ones that will be looking for a new home. I know they will roll with just 5-6. Nothing wrong with them I just have too many whites and will need some perch space for the upcoming season. Lemme know. yits
  18. Hey Jim, Rosebowl is giving away some good rollers on the rollers thread.
  19. Jim, The kitbox is thier quarters. Not really cramped. Each bird usually has "his perch" in the kitbox. I compete with my rollers and having them in this type of environment keeps them settled down and not wasting energy trying to breed or fight over a hen. It is kinda hard on the hens to roll with an egg inside them. It has a tendency to turn their parts inside out. So there is a reason we keep them in the kitbox. I have seperate breeding facilities from my flyers. You can use what ever size box you would like depending on the amount of birds you want to keep. I would think the minimum you would want to fly is six. Another thought. You can also train them to a portable box and take them with you when you go out and about. Most of the portable flyers use 6-10 birds. Do a little research on them. They are a smallish bird,10-12 0zs. you can pack them in pretty tight of you let them fly every day or two and keep it clean. Whatever you do have fun!! yits
  20. Jim, Rollers would probably be your best bet. they are small and hardy. They can live in a small enclosure. I have 22 in a 4x4x3 kitbox. Get two pairs from a notable fancier. Nothing high powered but decent. In a season you can fill the kitbox or not. 10-12 is a good number for rollers to put on a show. They can be tame and to be pets.Depends on how much you handle them. I have one in my living room. He was disheveled to extreme by my dog. Isn`t hurt, just lost a lot of feathers. He sits around with me and is quite tame to the touch after a couple of weeks. Good luck with whatever you choose. Use this as a guideline no matter what performing breed you get. JUST HAVE FUN!
  21. I usually lose a few one or two a season to fly away. If you settle them correctly there should be lottle chance of them flying away unless they get taken by the wind or a pred. good luck
  22. Rollers turn over backward with inconceivable rapidity for considerable distances. Tumblers twizzle, tail ride, plate, and roll.Usually in the same "break". Check the competeion standard for performing birds. yits
  23. I have Birms in the US. Click on my link and visit my site. I have a slide show on the home page.
  24. He is a Birmingham Roller. His name is Fweeps or The Fweepster. My wife fed him for a week or ten days when he was a chick. Now he is a big old deep rolling cockbird. The image is skewed and makes him look a little weird
  25. Looks like a roller. Most high flyers carry the wings below the tail . Birms however carry a lot like the pix. Then again they could be mutts. Don`t know till ya let em out and see what they do. good luck m8 nice looking birds.
