John Meechan was 2nd open and I think JH Dal was 5th or 6th.. ...then it took a day and a half to get the section filled. Better this time around. I suppose folks ideas of a great race are diffo. Surely the wagon isn't sitting in the sun right now? So logically it will be cooler thru the night and first thing in the morning...thats obvious surely? If you lib at lunchtime the birds will be moved to the lib site during the morning as it heats up...will be sitting in the hottest part of the day while they are settled and watered and then libbed into the hottest part of the day...sorry but that's not for me. At the end of the day u hope to time in whenever they go

Poor old Solway.....all they did was live too close to the border lol. 500 miles to where? I do laugh when guys come on here and tell us all how easy it must be to race 480 for a gold cup into the Solway.....no for me it's not

How can they be fresh? If I left you sitting in a box from 5am until 12 then let you out to run a mile would you be FRESH!! Now I find that ridiculous

Let them do some hard work at the start in the hottest part of the day? Nah no for me....get them up early in the coolest part of the day

Colin obviously great respect is needed for distance racing I just think we need a fresh look at racing especially across the water....people seem dinterested or disheartened.

Have a look at the entries Colin. No insults at all I just take the view that a reduction in distance would increase interest and entry. It's only my view and as stated I have said it before so knew the reaction pretty much. Of course we have only one race over 500 miles in the Solway that's just geography not something the members down here insist o n. I do send to it sometimes but it takes a special kind of bird ....which isn't always available
