Walter, I think this is one of the reasons that the Unions want all systems to read all rings. The problem is, when you assign a ring, you input the information to the computer, once done you then scan the ETS ring to allocate it to the information stored on the computer. The only time the system lets you know the ring has previously been allocated is if the allocated information is already stored on that particular computer.

The best way to stop this happening is to have the chip inserted into the life ring, but not via lugs, as an integral part of the ring. The technology is there, but the life ring manufacturers are not buying into it. Clip on life rings would only be necessary if the chip was damaged within the life ring. The Confederation is hoping the Unions will unite in bringing pressure on the companies to allow the rings to be read by any system, again relatively easy for them to do. Perhaps integral ETS Life Rings will follow, but we must first achieve step one.

The pads are only able to time one pigeon at a time, so when two cross the same pad at the same time, only one is recorded. The only way to prevent this is to slow them down by creating a tunnel where only one is able to cross the pad at a time. If you are prone to multiple drops and not wanting to slow them then increase the number of tunnels and pads.
