Alan, I do understand this. The point I suppose I was trying to make was that bringing in continental blood dilutes the proven lines and as George pointed out, fanciers are continually bringing in new lines to the detriment of the lines they already have in the loft. The old fanciers may have been better stock-men, but they had patience to wait and see whether the introduction improved their family. If it didn't, then the lot went and they would try again. Very few nowadays have a family; they have a mixture of many and varied lines. Because a pigeon does well in Holland or Belgium, does not mean that it will automatically do well in Scotland.
